Following the question we posed a few weeks ago, we wanted to share the other side of the coin when organisations forget that their greatest asset is their people. • Each year there is an average of 18 million days lost to mental health conditions in the UK (British Safety Council) • Through absenteeism, businesses lose 7.8 days per person in the UK (CIPD) • Only 10% of the UK workforce are currently engaged at work with 15% actively disengaged and 75% quite quitters (Gallup) • Presenteeism costs employers around £24 billion annually (Deloitte) • Of the 27% who have quit in the past 12 months or are planning to leave their role, 59% state personal mental health and wellbeing-related issues as the primary cause (Deloitte) Whether your position is driven by the bottom line or morally you believe it’s the right thing to do, the answer is the same. Investing in your people creates a culture where employees feel valued, supported and motivated to positively contribute. If you’re looking to go beyond the individual and better understand your organisation's story and how you can best support your people, follow the link in the comments to trial our university-developed diagnostic tool. Speaking of stories, here's one from Rosie Hyam, the Senior People Partner at Just Eat Takeaway.com on some work we did to support their global team of people leaders. "When we approached Peter to deliver training for our people leaders, he proved to be much more than just a facilitator. From the outset, he engaged as a true thought partner, collaborating with us to define the problem space and consider the most impactful way to deliver the content. To tailor the content to our specific organisational challenges, he requested key business information and integrated our company values and behaviours into the sessions. Participants praised Peter's expert knowledge, the compelling studies and stories he shared, and his engaging, open presentation style. We hope to work with Peter again on future projects!" “We are all storytellers. We all live in a network of stories. There isn’t a stronger connection between people than storytelling.” A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of representing Lead-Well at meetmagic.org's UK launch at the iconic Salesforce tower in London. As I escaped the rain to take the underground home, I couldn’t help but think of this beautiful quote by Jimmy Neil Smith… I particularly found it moving to hear Raphael Rowe's story and the important work the Raphael Rowe Foundation is doing to place more emphasis on health, education and rehabilitation across prison systems throughout the world. A big congratulations to Georgia Falzon and Carl Gough ✨ for organising and delivering a wonderful event that brought together the powerful potential of connection, technology, and purpose-driven leadership to create positive social impact. A shout out also to Kate Hunt for hosting and facilitating such an insightful panel conversation. Despite it looking like I’m falling asleep here (potential over did it on the canapés), it was a pleasure to also connect with Jamieson O'Reilly to share a few laughs and hear about his journey to create Dvuln, Australia’s #1 cybersecurity company. 🤝

Our guess is that you’ve heard the saying “what gets measured, gets done.” Our guess is you’ve also experienced people solutions that target individuals alone, rather than addressing the broader system and culture within the workplace. We don’t need to look far to find research showing that this is the primary reason why many programs fall short in reaching their intended impact. Here are four questions worth asking when investing in your people: • What are we currently doing to measure organisational wellbeing? • Are we making data-driven decisions to effectively support our staff? • Once we’ve identified specific issues and opportunities, how do we practically apply this? • Are we measuring impact to ensure we maximise our ROI? Data has an important story to tell, but it’s what we do next with this story that counts.

"How can we create the best possible environment for our employees to perform at their best?" A simple question that can be answered in many ways due to a range of internal and external factors playing their part. What creates the best possible impact in your organisation will look different to the next. One thing is for certain though, we need to start by putting ourselves in the shoes of our people to understand what influences their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Research on over 1 million employees across 1,782 publicly listed companies by the University of Oxford's Wellbeing Research Centre shows that when we do this, we increase organisational performance, profitability and overall value. With a clear ROI, shifting the dialogue from “does this work?” to “how can we best support our people?” provides an opportunity for organisations to make data-driven decisions, develop a strategic plan and cultivate a culture of wellbeing specific to their needs. If you'd like some guidance on how to best support your people, drop us an email at hello@leadwellcc.com. We are always happy to help. Oxford Research: https://lnkd.in/e7nW3tpp

‘Where We Specialise Series’ - Navigating Change In 2006, Professor John Kotter wrote a beautiful story about a penguin colony in Antarctica. The penguins are living contently on their iceberg as they have done for many years, before one curious penguin discovers a potentially devastating problem threatening their home. However, no one listens. Their story from there is one of resistance to change and heroic action, confusion and insight, intractable obstacles and positive problem solving. Simply, it is a common story that is occurring in different forms around us today, but the penguins seem to handle change a great deal better than most of us. Although a fundamental part of human life, change brings about uncertainty. And for us as humans, uncertainty can feel distressing and unpleasant because it makes it hard to plan, predict, or control the future. This leads us to the question of… "How do you best prepare and support your people, your team, and your organisation to navigate the complexities of change?" Link: https://lnkd.in/e_jV6Saw

The #1 insight from Harvard University’s 86 year study on human development is that close relationships and social connections are crucial in buffering against life’s stresses, protecting our overall health, and improving our wellbeing. With this in mind, we were thrilled to have our founder Peter Seehusen visit the Australian Embassy in Washington D.C. last week to work with members of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Department of Home Affairs, and Defence Australia on developing high-quality connections both at work and at home. Thanks again to the Embassy of Australia, United States of America for all of your support and for the important work that you do!

“Leaders are born, not made.” - Trait Theory There are many definitions of leadership, or what it takes to be a 'leader', with most of us being able to think of examples that sit along a spectrum. At one end, the inspirational leader who builds trust, drives change and acts with care. At the other end, the leader who lacks self-awareness and is unable to consider the needs of others. Regardless of the definition or example that resonates most, one thing can be certain, 'leading' always involves people. With this comes a need to focus on the human aspects of leadership, no matter your role or level of seniority. Leadership is more than a position or title. It is a mindset that CAN be learnt and developed through education, training and experience. With studies by Gallup and Gartner showing the need to prioritise the human elements of leadership to thrive in the modern workplace, it's never been more important to invest in developing emotionally intelligent leaders who prioritise authenticity, self-awareness and empathy.

Over the last couple of months, we’ve relished the opportunity to work with Just Eat Takeaway.com to deliver training on stress resilience to 120 people managers across their global team. It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with Rosie Hyam (Senior People Partner) and Irma J. (Country HRBP) to co-create tailored sessions designed to support their managers through practical, evidence-based strategies that reduce stress and anxiety, create positive behaviour change, and cultivate connection across the wider organisation. We are very humbled to receive such positive feedback with: • 100% of participants reporting that the training improved their understanding of resilience and how to cultivate it for themselves and their team. • 86% of participants stating they will introduce new supporting habits into their day and way of working. A shout out to Tilly Berry and the team at The Wellbeing Agency (Formerly The Yoga Agency) for bringing it all together and making it possible - thank you!
