Annually, the social care sector contributes £68.1 billion to the economy, and is vital part of Britain’s healthcare infrastructure – without it, there will be more strain on NHS services. To #SaveSocialCare from the 2025 budget impacts, we need £2 billion more in funding. Please advocate for our sector's survival by signing the letter https://lnkd.in/e3DSVgN3

Building community with people with learning disabilities in the UK.
About us
There are 11 L'Arche Communities across the UK where people with and without learning disabilities live together in community. In a world that places value on success and winning, L'Arche communities are places where people can discover who they are, not just what they can do. At L’Arche we celebrate people with learning disabilities and build circles of support around them. We go beyond supporting people's basic needs to attend to their emotional and spiritual lives, too. It is this focus on building relationships and cultivating a sense of belonging that makes us different.

We believe in the power of a person-centered approach - not just for the people we support but for everyone in our Community, including our gifted employees. This beautiful reflection from one of our Soulful Interns captures what we strive for: a supportive environment that nurtures individuality, safety, and growth. #LearningDisabilities #Internship
What do you expect from an internship? Is it an experience to build upon, potentially leading to a full-time role? Or perhaps a taste of professional life to inform future decisions? Or maybe a chance to self-reflect and understand your work style? While all these aspects are valuable, my recent internship at L'Arche UK has taught me the importance of something else: nurturing new talent. Instead of simply being tasked with mundane duties, I was given the space to grow and develop. A week to settle in, a retreat to reflect, and structured training followed by hands-on experience. Regular check-ins and support from mentors ensured my well-being and progress. This approach recognizes that everyone is unique, and it's essential to foster individuality and creativity. By providing a supportive environment, L’Arche has empowered me to be my best self. I believe this model can be a blueprint for future internships, one that prioritizes personal growth and professional development.

This year we've launched a new way to live in the Community by becoming a Soulful Intern. A few months ago, a bunch of new interns started their journey with a retreat designed specifically for them. They spent three days in a mixture of group sessions, storytelling, silent reflection and felt-making. More on the Soulful Internship at https://lnkd.in/eZMypzja

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is about the leadership of people with disabilities. ✊🏼 United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has pointed out today that “In every community, persons with disabilities are changemakers and peacemakers.”. On this day, meet Anna Przybysławska – a member of L'Arche who campaigns in Poland for the inclusion of people with learning disabilities. Fifty years ago, John, Bill and David escaped the prison of Eastry Hospital in Kent. They joined Geoffrey, Ann, Therese and others to start L’Arche in the UK. 🏠 Since then, thousands of others, with and without learning disabilities, have come to L’Arche, found their lives changed, and helped change the world. None of this would have happened without people who believed in more for people with learning disabilities. PEOPLE LIKE YOU 👈🏼 This Advent, we in L’Arche have made a special video to appreciate you, our friends and supporters, for being part of our amazing story. You have helped us all to shine. Thank you. 💙 https://lnkd.in/eS9eV_VS

L'Arche UK reposted this
Good to see one of the main political parties, the Liberal Democrats, taking the care crisis seriously, especially in light of the crippling proposed National Insurance increase. It will affect L'Arche UK and every other care provider severely if it is allowed to pass.
Dear Jill Farmer Thank you for your email dated the 18th November regarding the National Insurance rise. The Liberal Democrats are concerned the decision to hike employers’ national insurance contributions is counterproductive. Hitting GPs and care providers with higher taxes makes no sense. The Treasury is giving to the NHS with one hand but taking away with the other. Liberal Democrats are urging the Government to think again. If they won’t cancel their counterproductive jobs tax, we are calling on them to exempt GPs and care providers, so as not to make the health and care crisis worse. I appreciate all the work that L’Arche does to support people in the constituency and at a future date I do hope that there will be opportunity to visit and hear more. Thank you once again for your email and bringing this matter to my attention.
