On behalf of our members we responded last month to the The London Assembly Economy, Culture and Skills Committee call for evidence on London’s high streets. Our response showcased strategic and tactical partnerships to make high streets safe including: 📣Zero tolerance of crime, even low-level crime: Progress prosecutions, in particular for repeat prolific offenders 📣Take a data-led approach by focusing on higher-incidence crimes, specifically theft from property (including businesses), organised street begging, crime against the person (including violence against shop workers) and vehicle theft, and prioritising hotspot locations 📣Visible presence as a deterrent: Working with the police to increase their presence 📣Implement advanced proactive surveillance systems, use cutting-edge technology including police-operated ‘live’ real-time and retrospective facial recognition. Use facial recognition and AI to prevent organised crime 📣Investment in infrastructure, in particular assess and improve lighting on key streets 📣Encourage enforcement of strict penalties for criminal behaviour to deter crime. Rigorously progress police prosecutions and criminal behaviour orders to prevent persistent criminals from visiting Knightsbridge. In parallel, support rehabilitation programmes such as addiction programmes and priority recruitment. Last night we hosted our Annual Christmas Carols at the magnificent St Pauls Knightsbridge. The Chelsea Pensioners greeted guests including businesses, residents, property owners, councils, Mayors and the wider community for a joyful evening of carols, readings with our raffle raising over £1200 for our social impact partner 2-3 Degrees. We've digested the #AutumnBudget and what it means for businesses in Knightsbridge. Steven Medway, CEO, Knightsbridge Partnership said,  "This budget fails to introduce measures businesses in Knightsbridge need to grow. From an increase in NI contributions for employers to the absence of any mention on reintroducing tax free shopping, or how important international tourism is for driving the economy, is extremely disappointing and we will continue to champion this key issue as part of our advocacy programme on behalf of our members. The need for a government review of business rates reform is now sharply in focus for our members as many businesses across Knightsbridge fall outside of eligibility criteria for business rates relief.
