Santa's busy this time of year but where did he originate?
The story behind Santa Claus and Coca-Cola. Santa was originally drawn by Thomas Nast for Harper’s Weekly. His January 3, 1863 cover depicted Santa Claus handing out presents to Union soldiers. In the 1930s, Coca-Cola did redefine him. They launched a series of holiday ads featuring a warm, jolly figure in a red suit, sipping Coke by the fire by artist Haddon Sundblom. Coca-Cola gave Santa the iconic red and white look we now associate with holiday cheer. The result? Coca-Cola became forever tied to Christmas traditions, proving that a well-executed campaign can influence not just markets, but culture. → How do you create your own Santa moment for your brand? 1. A project we loved very much.
A great compelling brand strategy drives a business forward. The visual identity brings the strategy to life. When Gravel approached us last year asking for us to pitch for their new brand and website we jumped at the opportunity. They had built the tech, got customer validation, raised investment, and even made some sales. But they had no idea how to build a brand that would propel them forward. In Klutch Studio stepped. After several client workshops and numerous decks, the strategy was defined and agreed. Their customers, skincare manufacturers and chemical companies are under more and more pressure to be transparent about where their ingredients come from, for both innovation, accountability and profitability. Gravel is the first company ever to be able to map out this chain of complex connections and ingredients, an all-in-one easy-to-use platform. The brand strategy was built around a north star of UNLOCKING THE CHEMICAL VALUE CHAIN. As an industry first, Gravel gives an absolute line of sight across the entire chemical ingredients value chain. We built an identity with Gravel being the ‘key’ to unlocking it. We created a graphic language that replicated how the platform mapped its data, with a global encompassing world view that could be zoomed into to view at a macro level and broken down into flexible strings and combinations, that were able to show the connection between INGREDIENTS, INGREDIENT SUPPLIERS, OEMS and BEAUTY BRANDS in any combination depending on your search and requirements. The result was a bold identity that was backed by data and could carry to brand through its next stage of growth.
