We fund therapy dogs!🐾 Lisa is being treated at King's and has just received a liver transplant. She said: “Just 5 mins a day with a gentle doggo helps me to feel happy and safe and reminds me of all the things I love about home.” “A dog a day and I’ll happily stay 🧡” #LoveYourLiverAwarenessMonth #TherapyDogs #DogLovers #HealingWithDogs #LoveYourLiver

We make the best care possible at King's hospitals.
About us
King’s College Hospital Charity works to improve the care offered to patients and service users of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Our vision, aligned to that of the Trust, is an outstanding local hospital & world class centre for specialist clinical, teaching & research excellence. The Charity is a catalyst for innovation and excellence in the Trust. We do this by fundraising and giving grants that enhance services and facilities, support research and development, and improve the working environment for staff. The Charity funds projects which improve every aspect of health: it does not replace core NHS funding, but instead, funds projects which go ‘above and beyond’ NHS-funded services to deliver the best outcomes for patients. The Charity has three priorities for grant making: 1. Further developing and delivering a strategic grants programme that delivers positive outcomes and impact for patients, service users and their families. 2. Ensuring key services/specialities use and develop their designated funds to support innovation and improvement in clinical services across the Trust. 3. Developing and delivering a Small Grants Programme. Our grant making strategy is focused on improving patient care at the Trust through: Supporting major transformation projects; Enhancing equipment and facilities; Supporting and pump priming clinical research; Improving patient experience and welfare; Supporting staff skills, health and welfare.

The newly refurbished quiet room on the Princess Elizabeth and Lion Children's Ward at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been transformed from a tiny, overlooked space into a calming haven for families in their most challenging times. For short-term parents whose children may be on the ward for a few days or weeks, or long-term parents enduring months of uncertainty, this room provides a private space where clinicians and parents can discuss their child’s care and for some parents have to hear the most difficult and heartbreaking of news. Previously there was a no dedicated, private space for parents to discuss their child’s treatment with clinical staff. Staff on the ward had to use whatever room was available at the time. Meaning parents were hearing sometimes difficult news in an environment not fit to support them with processing this news. Working with staff and families on the ward and with interior architect Susan Dean-Hills an unused reception space was transformed to create a calm and serene quiet room. Families on the ward selected soft, muted colours to go with the furnishings and gentle dimmable lighting was used so families can sit in the room in gentle lighting long after the clinical conversation is over. Families and staff told of the importance of touch and parents being able to hold each other, so a small sofa was purchased instead of individual chairs to allow parents and families to sit and hold one another. Kevin Farrell, Paediatric Matron told us: “This room is of such benefit. It has made a huge difference to staff, patients and their families." This room is a testament to the strength of families and the compassion of those who care for them. Thanks to our incredible supporters, we're giving families a space to find solace, strength, and comfort when they need it most. 💛

“I had family visiting from all over the UK, often bringing their children with them. Having a space away from the busy wards where the kids can sit and play with their toys made their experience a lot less daunting and far more relaxed.” James spent over a month on the Katherine Monk Trauma Ward after being airlifted to King's from Portsmouth. He was involved in a severe motorbike accident, and broke both his legs. This Christmas, there will be patients like James spending the festive season on the Ward. While it will still be busy, with doctors, nurses and other specialists coming and going, the Day Room gives staff, patients and visitors somewhere to celebrate the day together. A place for families to spend festive time in a homely, nurturing environment. 💛 Give patients the gift of a full recovery this Christmas. Your gift will support King’s College Hospital Charity wherever the need is greatest ▶️ https://bit.ly/4fn0gCP
