Walking is just one way to experience our #cities and the delightfully complex interplay between the work our clients and colleagues in the #BuiltEnvironment do - from #architecture and #infrastructure to #planning and #construction. It's one of the reasons why we're celebrating Living Streets' National Walking Month throughout May, and exploring how different people experience the city and the power of walking as a tool for connection. Find out more from ING's Ben James and follow us throughout May as we explore more about the impact of walking. #MagicOfWalking #NationalWalkingMonth #Urbanism #London

The British Museum has announced a team led by Studio Weave as the winner of its competition to redesign the north and south entrances of the Museum creating a new visitor welcome pavilion. The project is part of the museum's wider Masterplan and will be delivered by Studio Weave, with Wright & Wright Architects, Webb Yates Engineers, Tom Massey - Landscape & Garden Design and Daisy Froud. Nicholas Cullinan, director of the British Museum, said: “As the most visited building in the UK, and one of the top three most visited museums in the world, first impressions count…We were very impressed by Studio Weave’s initial proposals. They perfectly balance a thoughtful visitor experience while remaining true to the British Museum’s historic building.” This week the museum unveiled an exhibition of models and images submitted by the architects shortlisted to redesign the Western Range of the museum. The exhibition consists of work by 6a architects, David Chipperfield Architects, Eric Parry Architects & Jamie Fobert Architects, Lina Ghotmeh, and OMA. As part of a design exercise, each practice was tasked with providing visionary approaches for the project, alongside the outline design of a limited selection of museum displays. While they are not final designs, visitors to the exhibit are being asked to submit feedback on the approaches, which will be passed to the Jury Panel as part of their consideration process. The Jury panel will announce the competition winner in Spring 2025. The model exhibition display is open from now until 2 March 2025. #britishmuseum #architecturecompetition #museums #exhibition

Can England’s “nature credits” framework become a global standard for protecting nature? England’s innovative Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) framework, recently highlighted by The Wall Street Journal, is turning heads worldwide. This program allows landowners to restore habitats and sell “nature credits” to developers, creating a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. The model is already sparking interest at global forums like COP16, where countries are exploring similar approaches. Josie Cadwallader-Hughes, sustainability director at Thakeham, believes in its potential: “Nature is way more complex than a spreadsheet. But this metric provides clarity for something so complex and sets an equal footing for us and our competitors.” Read more of Perry Cleveland-Peck 's article for the Wall Street Journal : https://lnkd.in/ehJSSwzV Photography: Daniel Casson #environment #sustainability #restoration #nature

Since 2006, Club Peloton has raised an impressive £5 million in grants to support charitable projects. As their official communications agency, we are proud to be part of its journey, helping to create even greater impact. Club Peloton, a charity and free membership club organises flagship events such as the women-only pedElle and the long-running rides to MIPIM. These events not only promote philanthropy but also drive real change for its partner charities. Club Peloton provides property industry professionals with the opportunity to tackle challenging tasks together, fostering stronger and more meaningful working relationships. Its welcoming and interactive environment quickly builds camaraderie and a sense of community, forming the foundation of the Club Peloton ethos. Together, we will be amplifying its incredible work and raising awareness of the charities it supports, including Cyclists Fighting Cancer, Coram (the first and longest serving children’s charity in the UK) and Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust, which helps elevate young people out of violent street crime. In addition to its flagship events, Club Peloton has established hubs in Edinburgh and Manchester to build and support local cycling communities. These hubs welcome cyclists of all experience levels, offering opportunities to get involved beyond London and the South East. Further hubs are in the works. #ClubPeloton #BuiltWorld #pedElle #MIPIM

Eden Dock is a first-of-its-kind urban oasis in the heart of Canary Wharf. In a pioneering partnership with the Eden Project, HTA Design LLP worked in close collaboration with Canary Wharf Group, Howells and the wider design team to deliver the new public waterfront that is bringing nature back to the 19th-century docklands. Cities around the world face unprecedented challenges in balancing growth while protecting the environment. By 2050, 70% of the world’s population is expected to live in cities, while in the last five decades wildlife populations have fallen by 69%. If biodiversity loss is to be tackled, cities need to be part of the solution and Eden Dock is an exemplar of this. Today, the dock welcomes visitors right to the water’s edge, with vibrant new public realm and extensive planting both under and around the dock’s waters. Floating gardens and boardwalks are now home to wading birds, waterfowl and songbirds, as well as bees and various plant species. The opening of Eden Dock is another step in the evolutionary vision for Canary Wharf and a landmark milestone in reimagining historic docklands for 21st century cities. Congratulations to Grimshaw, Maynard Design Consultancy, EQUATION Lighting Design, and AtkinsRéalis, the winners of the #StirlingPrize for The Elizabeth Line, announced last night at the Roundhouse in London. Earlier this week, ING welcomed a panel including Patrick Richard, Luke Spence, former winners and Smith Mordak a former jury member, who shared insights on what it takes to win UK architecture's top prize. The Elizabeth Line, designed to last for the next 120 years, is already shaping London's future. With 300 million journeys in its first two years, it is set to be the Stirling Prize winner with the most footfall. #StirlingPrize jury chair and RIBA president, Muyiwa Oki PRIBA, described the Elizabeth Line as "… a triumph in architect-led collaboration, offering a flawless, efficient, beautifully choreographed solution to inner-city transport … It rewrites the rules of accessible public transport, and sets a bold new standard for civic infrastructure, opening up the network and by extension, London, to everyone." #Architetcure #Design #Riba #Awards
