We kicked off the festive season early last Friday with our annual Christmas lunch, and we’d like to thank everyone who joined us. We hope there weren’t too many sore heads the next day! 🎄🥂 It was a pleasure to share a fantastic three-course meal and celebrate together. A special thanks to The Nest in Petersfield for their outstanding food, drinks, and venue, which made the occasion even more memorable. It was great catching up with old friends and welcome new connections - we’re excited to see how these relationships evolve in 2025. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our guests and colleagues for their incredible generosity towards The Salvation Army's Christmas Toy Appeal. This year’s contributions surpassed last year’s, and all the gifts have been safely delivered to support families in need this Christmas. Exactly one year ago, I met everybody at Melbourne Capital Group for the first time at the end of year Langkawi trip, and this weekend we returned to see out 2024. I was new to finance in 2023, with a background in health insurance and having not even stepped foot in the office yet or met 90% of the company. I remember sitting in the conference, listening to all the financial Jargon, conversations about AUM and cash flow modellings. Watching these great hard working people being handed awards for the best efforts, awards voted for by other people at the company, just supporting each other. But, In my head I was thinking - I have absolutely no idea what anybody is talking about and How have I convinced these people that I should be sat here amongst them? One thing I did know, is this was an opportunity given to me that I had to grab with both hands. Fast forward to 2024 - That same conference, I managed to win the Rising Star award for the Private Wealth Specialist team, an achievement I am really honoured to receive. I want to say a huge thankyou to Chris Crowe, Mark Owens and Reuben van Dijk for giving me the opportunity to grow here, I fully appreciate it. As well as a huge thankyou to Kazi Nishad and Melissa Lau for all the support from both of you all year. For anybody new, who is joining the industry, stepping into the world of financial planning. It's not easy, but nothing easy is ever worth having, which I am sure Rob Atherton will agree. What you do outside of your office hours, is just as important as what you do in there. Focus, not only on your company brand, but your personal one too. But I promise, its a rewarding career, helping people and changing their lives with things they often don't even know they need. Be resilient in your find a way to grow everyday stick at it, and remember if there's an experienced team around you, utilize it, they all want to see you do well, whilst also looking at areas you know nobody else has looked into. A big game changer to me, was reading The Diary Of A CEO by Steven Bartlett. Stephen talks of how when building true professional connections, everybody should be filling there five buckets. The 5 buckets are: What you know (Knowledge), What you can do (Skills), Who you know (Network), What you have (Resources) & What they think of you (Reputation). “The sum of these five buckets is the sum of your professional development.
