The MSC Elenoire has become the deepest draught container vessel to call in the United Kingdom. Operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company, the 16,600 TEU vessel arrived at the Port of Felixstowe from Tanjung Pelapas in Malaysia with a draught of 17.1 metres. With the increasing number of mega-max and deep-draught vessels operating on the main Europe-Asia trade, marine access is increasingly vital to operational efficiency, schedule reliability and customer service. The depth of the approach channel to Felixstowe was increased by Harwich Haven Authority from 14.5 metres to 16.0 metres in 2023, making it the only container port in the UK capable of handling 17m vessel calls. The depths at the port’s Berths 8&9 were increased from 16.0 metres to 18.0 metres at the same time. In total, Felixstowe has nine container berths, four of which can accommodate 24,000 TEU mega-max vessels. The MSC Elenoire is on the 2M Griffin service which calls at: Tanjung Pelepas, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Tanger Med, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen and Yantian. #portofbritain

Port of Felixstowe staff plant trees at local high school In lieu of giving gifts at the celebration to mark the maiden call of A.P. Moller Maersk’s first methanol-fuelled ship, Laura Maersk, at the Port of Felixstowe the port promised to plant a tree for each guest that attended the event. Volunteers from the port met bright and early at Felixstowe School to plant 35 Wild Cherry Blossom trees in an area at the entrance to the school. This supports the port’s ongoing journey to Net Zero and the pursuit of a cleaner planet. #netzero #portofbritain

Port Team Joins In The Bupa and GB Paralympic Team Health Challenge A team from the Port of Felixstowe recently participated in the Bupa and GB Paralympic Team Health Challenge at the London Olympic Stadium. The event was held to raise awareness of the challenges faced by disabled people on a daily basis. Attendees were encouraged to consider how they could help to create more inclusive environments. Over the course of the day the teams participated in a range of activities, including, creating two fully functioning prosthetic hands which would be donated to children in need in a developing world country. The port team led by Nick Luck, Hutchison Ports (UK) HR Director thoroughly enjoyed the challenge which, as well as being great for team-building, was a real eye-opener on how very challenging daily life for the disabled can be when the abled are not properly educated on the challenges they face. Health and Wellbeing Fair The Port of Felixstowe has held its first Health and Wellbeing Fair for its staff. The event had a broad array of external and internal exhibitors specialising in the importance of health and wellbeing and highlighting how to improve and preserve it. The interactive event enabled staff to participate in a variety of tests and therapies available, from a general health check to taster reflexology and massage sessions. The port has recently trained over seventy mental health first aiders (MHFA), with further training being rolled out. Staff were able to visit the MHFA stand and speak to trained first aiders. We were delighted that the event was very well attended and a huge success based on the positive feedback received. #healthandwellbeing #mentalhealth
