So pleased that Currys plc and Elkjøp Nordic AS (part of Currys plc) have found it "invaluable" to have independent support from our team here at Slave-Free Alliance. We've had a longstanding and fruitful partnership and we are looking forward to working closely together in 2025!

Hope for Justice welcomes the UK Government’s response to the House of Lords Committee’s review of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. As the Act approaches its 10-year anniversary, we look forward to working with the Government to improve the UK’s response to modern slavery to better protect those at-risk of exploitation and to support survivors in their recovery. We are particularly encouraged by the Government’s recognition of the importance of survivors having access to independent support. Hope for Justice has seen the immense benefit of survivors having access to independent advocacy as part of their recovery in addition to having a support worker providing day-to-day assistance. This allows them to access all forms of justice and to overcome barriers in accessing support services to which they are entitled. Read our full response at the link.

Hope for Justice is pleased to have had a role in securing this outcome and the guilty pleas by these two traffickers. It takes incredible bravery by survivors to share their stories, without which the conviction would not have been possible. The threats of violence, financial reliance, coercion and dishonest debts seen in this case are very common in modern slavery and human trafficking situations. These factors can make it difficult for victims to seek help or even see themselves as victims, and they often distrust the authorities, which is why the role of charities can be so important.

Just a few of the most shocking facts about modern slavery and human trafficking in our world today. When we share stories of individual lives changed, we cannot forget the scale of the task that faces us all and how many others still need help. We have to stand together and see change at every level of society. Hope for Justice is part of that change, but we depend on donations from ordinary people, businesses and groups. For a limited time, all gifts are DOUBLED thanks to generous match-funders: www.hfj.org/give

Give the gift of freedom this Christmas, so you can help people like Sanaa: www.hfj.org/give Sanaa dreamed of helping others by becoming a nurse. But the people who promised to arrange her training and travel were traffickers. They threatened her and took her to a house in northern England that was actually a brothel. Recovery has been extremely hard for Sanaa, with many setbacks. But with help from Hope for Justice, and her Independent Modern Slavery Advocate who we assigned to stand alongside Sanaa, her situation stabilised. We helped her find somewhere to live, to get her proper legal status for support and to enrol on college courses. Today, she is working part-time at a charity shop, her mental health is improving, and she still hopes to help others. In fact, she wants to become a support worker for other survivors. She finally has confidence again. “I have been very happy with Hope for Justice’s support,” she said. “Without it, things could have turned out differently for me. I didn’t know who to turn to for help.” Finding freedom is not an event – it is a process. It takes time, sometimes years. Hope for Justice helps the survivors whose needs are the most complex to ensure they are not alone and that they can access the support they need and are entitled to. This Christmas, your gift can ensure we can help more survivors like Sanaa as they find freedom for themselves. (Name changed and image posed to protect survivor's identity)

“Third parties get involved – unscrupulous people doing the wrong thing. That’s what happened. I had no knowledge of it... I can’t influence what I can’t see and what I can’t touch and that’s what happened in Indonesia. It’s happening now, still.” Unfortunately the attitude and ignorance displayed in this quote (and throughout the story at the link) are still far too common in many businesses. To find out what you can and should be doing, and the checks you need to ensure your suppliers and partners are making, search Slave-Free Alliance today. #LabourExploitation #SupplyChains #ModernSlavery #SlaveFreeAlliance
