    Part 3 of Hiperpool’s MBB Global Salary Index: Purchasing Power After looking at gross salaries and net salaries in each country, we have now incorporated cost of living (including rent) to compare purchasing power across the group. To generate the proprietary purchasing power score, we’ve used net salary figures and triangulated cost of living from three reputable indices. The scores are relative to the lowest scoring country, with a baseline index of 1. Building on Part 1 of this index where we examined gross base salaries, we now incorporate standard tax rates in each country to present net (take-home) base salaries - all standardized to USD. If you haven't yet seen Part 1, you can follow the link below for the gross salary analysis and the methodology behind this index. https://lnkd.in/eq6KpT7X It's important to note that taxes vary based on multiple individual factors and circumstances, such as other income, marital status, and citizenship. For countries where taxes vary by city or state, we've used the average tax rate across the relevant cities/states. Stay tuned for Part 3, where we'll delve into the cost of living to illustrate how all this translates to purchasing power in each country. We will also compile all three parts, along with the great input and feedback received, into a final comprehensive piece.

    Introducing Hiperpool’s Global MBB Salary Index. Over the years, Hiperpool has helped companies make critical hires in 18 countries and in 40+ cities. A recurring question we encounter is around the variation in salaries for the same role across different countries. It is no surprise that there is a difference, but the extent of these variations often proves to be staggering. We’ve developed this index to shed some light on this matter. To provide the most accurate comparison—ensuring we're comparing apples to apples—we've examined the average base salaries for identical roles across three firms- McKinsey, Bain and BCG. This series comprises three parts: Part One: We compare the average gross base annual salary for Associate-level positions (post-mba equivalent) at these three firms across 15 different countries, all standarized to USD. Part Two: Taking our analysis further, we delve into net (take-home) salaries by incorporating standard tax rates in each respective country. Part Three: We look at cost of living to illustrate how these salary figures translate to purchasing power in each country. You’ll find Part One below.     The work-from-home debate has been divisive for several years, and it's likely to continue stirring controversy for the foreseeable future. Today's headline about Boots CEO mandating a full return to office got me thinking about this again. Unpopular Opinion: For most teams, working together in-person is more productive. However, it's never that simple. What happens when we factor in the cost of office space? And more importantly, how do we account for the decrease in productivity and morale when team members sacrifice time with their families or endure lengthy commutes, along with the additional expenses for travel and childcare? In an ideal world, where all team members live within a 15-30 minute commute from the office, where commuting is affordable, and childcare is readily accessible, I would argue that teams should spend at least 3-4 days per week working together in the office. But this is far from the reality for most people. I don't claim to have the right answer, not even for my own team, despite trying out various setups. It's clear that it's not simply binary; there are numerous factors to consider when finding the ideal setup for any company or team.

    Where are all the strategy consultants going to go? A paradox of consulting is: a) There's ferocious competition to get in But... b) Most consultants don't *actually* want to be consultants. The plan is to spend a few years in consulting and get out I've been thinking about the number of consultants who are "stuck" at their firms An under-the-radar factor is the sheer growth strat consulting has seen in the past 5-10 years As a rough metric to illustrate the point, a decade ago McKinsey had ~1300 Partners, now that figure is ~3000. Add in the rapid pay rises for junior consultants we've seen and you have an exit problem Where are all these consultants going to go? There are only so many corporate strategy teams out there. PE options will always be tight and start-ups and scale-ups aren't hiring like they used to when interest rates were low and money was easy. As an optimist, I think this leads to more consultants starting their own companies. As a pessimist, I think this will born out of necessity, not passion. #consulting #strategyconsulting #mbb #privateequity #hiring #hiperpool #managementconsulting #talentmoves #consultingexits
