Christmas tree is just an opportunity to get another potted plant I like the smell of real Christmas trees, but I’m not very excited about having a cut one, although I know they come from farms, grown specifically for this exact purpose. I had artificial ones over the years, but I find them offensive to my green thumb new layer of personality. This year I figured the best option is to rent one. Renting a Christmas tree is a great way to enjoy this this time of year and feel good about yourself. Too bad the options are not making this very easy. Winter blues got you down? Don't let your indoor jungle suffer too! While the outside world may be hibernating, houseplants can still thrive with a little preparation and low maintenance. Creating this cosy and inviting space filled with greenery I get a sense of hibernation myself. I can curl up with a book or a sketchbook, surrounded by my indoor jungle, and enjoy the slower pace of winter. A symphony of colour and a lil’ care guide Subtitle beauty is not something Caladiums can be accused of, with vibrant leaves that can rival flower petals. Both, begonias and tradescantias, are creating a fascinating show, but caladiums are the loudest in my little jungle. While wondering online and offline in conversations about plants, I noticed fellow plant enthusiasts mentioning partners that moan about ever-growing collections and I think this is a blessing, as it maintains a healthy balance. Unfortunately, I have a partner that refuses to follow the pattern and insists on bringing home plants constantly. Only a week ago I received five caladiums in desperate need of repotting, with more roots than soil in pots. I was dazzled and concerned at the same time. I barely managed to fit all my plants indoor, with many clippings still in need of potting. Nevertheless, I'm not the one to dwell too much on my misfortunes, and moved on with repotting. Adriana Cidades: Tree fern and perlite is my recipe to save an anthurium The sparkling veins are notoriously difficult to capture on camera, the unique excitement of creating hybrids is in the realm of art. All this subtile features of anthuriums managed to create a unique hype around this plants. Since I'm like an infant when it comes to anthuriums, I asked an expert. Adriana Cidades, owner of the shop Seeds Queen and founder of the Facebook group "Plant Kindness - The Gifting Group", was the star of an article The Sun wrote almost three years ago about her stunning collection, counting back then over 700 tropical plants. Check my blog for the interview with Adriana Cidades https://lnkd.in/eYj7BxGU #plantsoflinkedin #businessowner #womanentrepreneur

Plant Kindness: The Secret Garden of Facebook Sure, it's nice to get plants from nurseries and supermarkets, but none of this compares with Facebook groups. One of them, in particular, "Plant Kindness - The Gifting Group" is like an Anthurium Warocqueanum among jade plants. "Plant Kindness- The Gifting Group" is truly a wonderful community. This Facebook group was created by Adriana Cidades "to try and help some people having something to look forward to" during the dark times of lockdowns. Not only this goal was achieved, but the group continues to grow and thrive. Read the rest of the story on my blog https://lnkd.in/eKdVTUhX #PlantBusiness #PlantIndustry #CommunityBuilding

A Green Monstera for charity: Macmillan Coffee Morning Giving plants away comes with a different kind of satisfaction than any other gift. I've got into plants in the first place by receiving a sansevieria and a schefflera on a rock, that I still have. Since then, I have given away lots of plants, including babies from my first two plants. Obviously,I have received many freebies myself, but what I'm trying to do now it's a bit different. The Manor Road Gym in Brighton is hosting a #macmillancoffeemorning on 16th of September, at 11.30 to raise money for people living with cancer. The event includes sweet and savory snacks, refreshments and a visit from a nurse from the Horizon Center to answer any questions. Macmillan Cancer Support is using the donations from thousands of Coffee Mornings to help raise vital funds to support the 3 million people in the UK living with cancer, from the moment they are diagnosed, throughout treatment and beyond. Also, as part of the fundraising efforts for a Macmillan Coffee Morning, donations from local businesses are required as prizes for a charity raffle. A Green Thumb's Guide to Reviving an Olive Tree I have planted a few young trees in my life, and even have two grown from seeds, a lemon tree and a japanese maple tree. Rewarding experiences, but the joy of saving an olive tree is the most satisfying one. Green Monstera Deliciosa: The Masterpiece of my Collection I named my blog Green Monstera because Monsteras, in general, are my favourite plants, and I find Monstera Deliciosa, in particular, a brilliant plant. About a year ago, in my infancy regarding houseplants, I found a Monstera Deliciosa clipping next to the bin. I took it home and turned it into a healthy plant, but the journey wasn’t as easy as that article suggests. My plant had four leaves and decided to fashion herself in a propeller shape. During this year I cut the base leaf with a healthy root system and placed it in a separate planter. Each plant grew only one new leaf, to my disappointment. This spring I united both plants in a planter and kept them condensed with the help of a bamboo stick and some garden twine. I finally obtained a better looking plant and the bigger one had a leaf on the way. Read the rest of the story on my blog https://lnkd.in/d4yAYb9V

Houseplant Studios at Chelsea: Pinnacle of Design The reason I wanted to go to the most prestigious flower show was the houseplant studios, and I was not disappointed. Took me a lot of time to actually sit down and write about this; I could say I wanted all this information to settle, which helped with a more balanced opinion. Also, I had some eventful days between Chelsea and now. The problem is that some details were lost, although I wrote an article about my general impression first. Anyway, my favourite studio was Hope After Humanity, designed by Gemma Haigh from The Plant Parlour with plants from GrowTropicals. I guess I have a soft spot for nature taking over abandoned buildings and graffiti, but it was more than that. I loved the lack of overrated variegated plants and the big statement: the future is green. With Hoya Linearis cascading from a broken roof, ferns growing behind a mirror and a dump smell inside, I got this eerie feeling. Maybe this apocalyptic theme that is used in entertainment a bit too much in the last years gave me this saturation feeling. Clearly, there is a lot of change in the world, but that doesn't mean humanity is about to perish. Regardless, I think this studio deserved a gold medal rather than a silver gilt medal.
