A new research paper from the National Centre for Social Research has been released which recognises the efficacy of residential treatment for gambling harm - adding further weight to the necessity of residential treatment under the new statutory levy system. We are pleased that our women's treatment programme efficacy study was one of the papers referenced in this new research. We hope this report encourages the NHS and policymakers to maintain and expand funding for residential treatment, ensuring that no one is left without the help they need. Chief Executive at Gordon Moody, Mental Health Advocate, Mentor, INED, Award Winner and Equality & Diversity Lead./Consultant
It was a pleasure to meet Stuart Andrew MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, and former Gambling Minister, earlier today to discuss the challenges posed by the new gambling levy system. I had the opportunity to share the sector’s collective concerns about how, despite the right intentions being expressed, the current narrative and actions of key decision-makers risk sidelining organisations like Gordon Moody and others with longstanding expertise in addressing gambling-related harm. It was great to see that Stuart Andrew not only acknowledged these concerns but also shared them, emphasising the critical need for our sector to be supported and listened to during this transitional period. Political support is vital as we navigate these challenges, ensuring that the needs of those affected by gambling harm are prioritised. Continued engagement with ministers and MPs is essential to inform decision-making, and strong advocacy from policymakers can help secure the resources, recognition, and collaboration needed to build a fair system that protects and supports the third sector, regardless of historical funding streams. We at Gordon Moody will do all we can to ensure this happens. I look forward to continuing this important dialogue and welcoming Stuart to one of our treatment centres in the new year as we work together to address these pressing issues and protect the rights, voices and experiences of those affected by gambling related harm.
