  • Ho Ho Ho 🎅 we’re counting down to Christmas by recognising our superstar departments/teams. Today, the spotlight is on The Radiotherapy Engineers! This small but essential team ensures that the Radiotherapy equipment is maintained and calibrated in conjunction with Medical Physics to ensure the safety of the equipment, reduce downtime and thereby ensure a consistent safe radiotherapy provision to the patients. Without this team, all equipment maintenance and equipment breakdowns would mean longer interruptions to the patient service with patients being cancelled and rebooked. These staff will often go up and above their normal work, a classic example of this was the burst water pipe event a couple of years ago when the whole of Radiotherapy was flooded with water cascading down the stairs from the Endoscopy on the floor above. The engineers were the first on the scene helping to stop the flow of water, approaching the Fire Brigade who responded in force and helped a small team led by the engineers and the Radiotherapy Services Manager, GMS Acting Chief Exec to sweep the water out of the building. They are also great advocates for financial sustainability, constantly looking for ways to recycle and save costs.

  • 🎉 Deck the halls and spread the cheer. Today we’re celebrating all our wonderful GMS Warehouse team. We would like to recognise this team for their exceptional work in coming together as a new unit this year, continuously innovating, implementing, and evolving their service. Operating from the Warehouse, they provide vital support to all areas of the Trust. Their responsibilities include furniture storage, receipting and distributing parcels across the site, leading cost-saving initiatives that deliver significant financial benefits to the Trust, and ensuring the timely delivery of urgent PPE. The team also manages the Warpit furniture recycling programme and collects empty cages to maintain compliance with Health & Safety and Fire guidelines. Throughout all these tasks, they consistently demonstrate the values of the Trust and GMS, maintaining clear and professional communication with patients, visitors, staff, and contractors. Their dedication and versatility are instrumental in the seamless operation of the Trust, and they truly deserve recognition for their contributions.

  • On day 27th December, we wanted to shine a light on our amazing Strategy and Transformation team, who deliver large and complex projects and programmes of work that are essential in supporting the Trust to achieve its Strategic Objectives, with a passion for improving patient and staff experience at their core.   This year they have supported a varied portfolio of change ranging from Staff Improvement, Estates, Financial Sustainability and Clinical reconfiguration of services amongst other work programmes.     It has seen the delivery of (and not exclusive to) two new operating theatres in Cheltenham General, a new Emergency Department, new Cath Labs and Interventional Radiology Labs at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. It has also undertaken 14 ward moves and centralised the Acute Take as part of our Fit for the Future Programme and the most challenging target for any Financial Sustainability programme the Trust has embarked upon.   These projects and programmes have to adapt to the working hospital environment, and problem-solving challenges such as having cranes on site, without preventing any interruptions to the delivery of care. The team can often be found working out of hours to fit with clinical and operational teams and working closely with Executives and other Board members. They also collaborate with system partners to achieve the best possible outcomes for the population of Gloucestershire.   The team is made up of a collection of Project Support Officers, Project Managers and Programme Managers - The whole team deserves recognition for their hard work and dedication given to the delivery of their respective programmes of work over the last 12 months.
