About us
The GSA is a non-profit charity organization with the mission to provide global leadership to reduce the worldwide burden of sepsis. The GSA is the initiator of World Sepsis Day on September 13 and World Sepsis Congress, a series of free online congresses bringing knowledge about sepsis to all parts of the world, among other initiatives. The GSA works closely with its over 100 member organizations, patient advocacy groups, professional societies, healthcare authorities, and governments to implement changes on how sepsis is prioritized, diagnosed, and treated all around the world, as laid out in the WHO Resolution on Sepsis.

The Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA) recently participated in the AMR Symposium hosted by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Vatican City. The event, which focused on "Solving Antimicrobial Resistance: A Rising Global Health and Humanitarian Crisis," brought together leading global health experts and policymakers to address the urgent challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Speakers and panelists of the Symposium included renzo pegoraro, the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy for Life; Takuko Sawada, Director and Vice Chairperson of the Board, Shionogi; Damiano de Felice, Chief of External Affairs, CARB-X; John Alter - CEO, AMR Action Fund; Robin Hiley, Composer & Producer, LIFELINE; Francesca Manno – Director of the Department of Treasury, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy; Joel Denis – Director General of the Public Health Agency of Canada; Laurent Muschel – Acting Director General of HERA, European Commission; @Atsutoshi Hagino – Delegate of the Japan Ambassador to Holy See; Michael Hodin – CEO of the Global Coalition on Aging; Michael Severance – Director of Acton Institute. Dr. Reinhart presented on "Sepsis and the Impact of AMR," highlighting the importance of addressing both #sepsis and #AMR together. He shared highlights of the #2030GlobalAgendaforSepsis, the first multi-year global strategy, which was launched at the German Parliament in September. Dr. Jashi, who participated in the panel discussion, also highlighted the important role of religious leaders in raising awareness about AMR and sepsis. She stressed that these issues are interconnected and need to be addressed together in policy discussions. Dr. Jashi further pointed out how ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises increase the risk of sepsis and warned that the Sustainable Development Goals cannot be achieved without addressing both sepsis and AMR. The GSA also applauded actor Bill Pullman's commitment to raising awareness of the links between AMR and sepsis, underscoring the importance of engaging public figures in this effort. This event reinforced an important message: to ensure a healthier and safer future, we must unite in the fight against sepsis and AMR.
