Time is a precious commodity, while wisdom is earned through experience and persistence. I embarked on my doctorate at The University of Edinburgh, where I gained invaluable knowledge and insights. As a neurosurgeon and researcher, my work is guided by a deep sense of purpose: to help and serve those suffering from the most debilitating diseases. I am profoundly thankful to many people outside of the University community and would be happy to explore further collaboration Edinburgh Innovations, Andrea Taylor, College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, The University of Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh Institute for Academic Development, Dr. Sara Shinton, CFO Oleksandr Tverdokhlib, GLOBAL ALLIANCE for Neurosurgical & Brain Cancer Research Innovations As Dr. Ben Carson once shared, “The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time... He also gave us a purpose.” His commitment to faith and service has always been a powerful reminder for me that our work in medicine and research is ultimately about fulfilling a higher purpose—helping others in the name of compassion and divine calling."

Large paraclinoid aneurysms, located near the clinoid segment of the internal carotid artery, present significant challenges due to their complex anatomy and proximity to critical structures such as the optic nerves. Understanding the complexities of these aneurysms is essential for optimising patient outcomes.

With these aneurysms located close to critical structures such as the optic nerve and internal carotid artery, the stakes are incredibly high, affecting vision, neurological function, and sometimes even life itself. In cases where a traditional approach is insufficient, a clinoidectomy—the removal of the anterior clinoid process—enables improved access to the aneurysm, reducing risks to surrounding structures and enhancing the likelihood of a successful repair. While intricate, this technique has shown to improve outcomes, allowing for precise aneurysm clipping or coiling.

We are thrilled to receive an official response from the Scottish Government's Chief Scientist Office (CSO) regarding my recent research on the combination of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and necroptosis in brain tumour treatment. This innovative approach holds incredible potential in significantly impacting the lives of patients affected by brain tumours. The letter acknowledges the potential global significance of the work, particularly in inducing necroptosis, a form of programmed cell death, which could offer new pathways for cancer treatment. Thank you to the CSO and The Scottish Government for their support and recognition of this vital research. Thank you for invaluable contribution Dr Karin Williams,PhD, The University of Glasgow, The University of Edinburgh, College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, The University of Edinburgh, Beatson Cancer Charity, Dr Akhil Kallepalli, PhD, University of Strathclyde, Dr Kirsteen Campbell, PhD, BEATSON INSTITUTE FOR CANCER RESEARCH, CFO Oleksandr Tverdokhlib, GLOBAL ALLIANCE for Neurosurgical & Brain Cancer Research Innovations, Oncology News Today , Jessica Conway
