Hello #femalefounders - a £50 million investment fund called Revenge aims to provide 'FU money' to female entrepreneurs in the UK. Somewhat improbably the fund is launched by a woman who slept with her shoes on for years while raising her kids on a social worker salary. The Times profiled Nell Daly on Saturday explaining how she turned herself into a venture capitalist overnight and is now launching Revenge Capital LLP. The writer, Harriet Walker, is a Times fashion columnist, not perhaps an obvious match to cover a VC story but one that makes sense when Daly's knockout Cher meets Julianne Moore vibe makes the story impossible to ignore. Superficial perhaps but sometimes it takes red leather to cut through years of complacency. The stats are well reported. According to Forbes, data shows capital funds going to back all male founder teams went up from 80% in the first half of 2023 to 86% in the first half of 2024. Meanwhile, capital funds going to businesses founded by women has fallen from 2% to 1.8%. Yet a study by First Round Capital found the companies with a female CEO had a return on investment 63% higher than those run by men. Tessa Clarke the inspirational founder of Olio • Share More, Waste Less has pointed out: until we change the gatekeepers of capital, we're not going to change the fate of female-founder businesses. If anyone can lead the charge, it could be the lady in red. Louise Marsh Giovanna Forte Emmie Faust Dr Nikita Kanani MBE Sarah Williams-Gardener Ann Vandermeulen MIED Candy Outten BA. BSc. Stacey L.
