Not quite sure how we're at the end of 2024 already? We weren't either, until we stopped, took stock, and looked back at everything our artists, producers and technologists had achieved. This year we worked on over 250 ads, 54 film and TV projects and five huge rides. Throw in Oscar and Emmy nominations, VES and Annie wins and a Webby for best virtual experience and it's no wonder the year felt like a bit of a whirlwind. It's impossible to show off everything we've done, but this short reel shines a light on the kind of creativity and innovation that helps set Framestore apart. Congratulations and thank you to every single member of the global team - your talent, artistry and commitment continually help us to reframe the possible! #visualeffects #filmmaking #advertising #tvproduction #cgi #vfxproduction #vfx

Our artists had a blast reimagining cult locations and creatures for Eli Roth’s Borderlands, based on the legendary gaming franchise of the same name. From revisiting Lilith’s Firehawk powers, the fearsome Skags of Pandora and horrifying Ratch pests, to exploring concepts for Piss Wash Hurdle and Kroms Canyon environments. The team also developed initial artwork for components of ClapTrap, a robot voiced by Jack Black and created in final animation by our VFX artists in Melbourne. #Borderlands #ConceptArt #ArtDepartment #PreProduction #ClapTrap

In the early stages of pre-production, Framestore Art Department helped director Fede Álvarex explore some initial ideas for Alien: Romulus. Revisiting the creatures (and lifecycle) central to Alien lore and cinematic history was an adventure. Dan Baker’s concepts for hybrid Xenomorph/Human offspring caul birth, crawling child and Facehugger egg sack were early ideas shared with Fede. #AlienRomulus #ConceptArt #ArtDepartment #Alien #PreProduction

We’re introducing our last (and probably our fav) Imaginary Friend, the larger-than-life Blue! With his oversized presence, vibrant purple and cartoonish charm, we had to ensure his design was both tangible and flexible. From early concept art to pre-production tests, we worked closely with Writer/Director John Krasinski to map out Blue’s scale, movement, and performance. Every shot was hand-animated, ensuring Blue’s character felt real and relatable despite his enormity. Meet Blossom, the Fleischer-esque IF Blossom is a delightful fusion of old-school charm and modern animation. Inspired by Betty Boop, but with a 3D twist, we worked hard to preserve her 1940s vibe while making sure her design was appealing from every angle. Creating Blossom required a delicate balance involving a lot of back-and-forth between 2D sketches and 3D modeling to perfect her look. #IF #Blossom #VFX #Animation #CharacterDesign #BehindTheScenes

As we continue to release character breakdowns for our Imaginary Friends, today we’re sharing the quirkiest of them all—Cosmo. Voiced by Christopher Meloni, Cosmo is a P.I./detective straight out of a ’50s noir spy novel. Our team paid special attention to integrating his playful nature into every scene, ensuring that he felt both dynamic and seamlessly connected to the live-action world. #IF #VFX #CharacterDesign #Animation #BehindTheScenes #vfxbreakdown
