Techo International Airport in Cambodia is a celebration of lightness and illumination. By day, natural light filters and diffuses through the ceiling structure and special screens. Foster + Partners has revealed designs for Regent Residences Dubai, Sankari Place, which comprises two striking residential towers (180 metres) in Dubai’s Marasi Marina, Business Bay. Inspired by cascading water, the adjacent towers make a unique contribution to the city’s skyline and waterfront, with sixty interlocking apartments and staggered terraces. The project is a collaboration between Sankari and IHG Hotels & Resorts. “Regent Residences Dubai, Sankari Place’s dynamic twisting form and articulated façade will make it a distinctive new addition to Business Bay and the wider city. Our design harnesses connections to nature, with generous shaded terraces and optimised views of the waterfront.” Gerard Evenden, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners. The architectural form is divided into two towers, which share the same design language. This creates space for one generous apartment per floor, thereby increasing natural ventilation and light. Every apartment is orientated to offer panoramic 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eA4fZuqC #Architecture #Design #Construction #Engineering

We are honoured to have played a part in this groundbreaking project. Designed in close collaboration with structural engineers, Millau Viaduct illustrates how the architect can play an integral role in the design of bridges. Hear Norman Foster reflect on the story behind the world’s tallest bridge, 20 years after its opening.
What a project. The world's tallest bridge opened exactly 20 years ago today. We sat down for an exclusive interview with the legendary Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners to mark the milestone and discover the structure's remarkable story 👉 https://bit.ly/3Dmd5jB #construction #infrastructure #engineering #bridge #architecture

On 17 December 2004, a spectacular music venue opened in North East England. Two decades on, it would take 14 million minutes to experience all the performances that have happened at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music. Young people and adults have joined a music class 2.7 million times. 🎼 Designed by Foster + Partners, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly Sage Gateshead) sits on the banks of the River Tyne in Gateshead, overlooking Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Inside the distinctive free-flowing glazed envelope, you’ll find three performance spaces – an acoustically state-of-the-art concert hall that can seat up to 1,650 people, a unique 10-sided hall for up to 400 people, and a large rehearsal space for resident orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia. Below, a labyrinth of studios and spaces for music making of all kinds. Everything music can do. Under one iconic roof. As we celebrate 20 years, here’s a glimpse of something special – stay tuned for the full story coming later next year. Music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio, performed by Royal Northern Sinfonia with Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa #TheGlasshouse #Architecture #Design #MusicVenue

A recent groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction work on a new mixed-use development, which is part of the wider Sanlin Riverside project in Shanghai. Designed by Foster + Partners, the development includes state-of-the-art offices to the north of the site, which connect with a retail offering and an additional workspace in the south. The buildings are joined together by landscaped plazas, gardens, and courtyards, as well a new park for community markets and festivals and a waterfront colonnade. “We are creating a wonderful new waterfront destination in Shanghai, which will enrich the local area with offices, cafes, shops, restaurants, and a range of green community spaces. The scheme’s vibrant public ground plane joins up with the new bay and a nearby metro station for sustainable travel to and from the development.” Gerard Evenden, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners. 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wPmPt #Architecture #Design #Construction #MixedUse #Masterplan #Shanghai #China

As part of our 2024 COP29 programme, we invited people from the practice to take part in a photography competition - capturing inspiring images that showcase sustainable architecture and infrastructure. The aim was to highlight the role of design in addressing climate change by submitting photography that reflects sustainability within three key categories: Water, Mobility and Connectivity, and Energy and Carbon. Congratulation to the winners and all those who took part. Image 1, Overall Winner, Mobility and Connectivity category: Solna Centrum Station, Stockholm, Sweden By Luisa Amann, Graduate Sustainability Designer. Solna Centrum Station, part of Stockholm's metro, features red and green murals that enhance user experience, promote public transport and blend art with sustainable urban connectivity. Image 2, Energy and Carbon category: Resource Rows, Copenhagen, Denmark, Cinthia Espino, Associate Partner and Senior Sustainability Coordinator. Resource Rows reused 1x1m brick panels from old Carlsberg breweries, upcycling them into facade panels, saving embodied carbon and extending the service life of salvaged materials. Image 3, Water Category: Saiho-Ji Temple Moss Garden, Kyoto, Japan by Luisa Amann, Graduate Sustainability Designer. The moss garden at Saihō-ji Temple showcases sustainable design, reducing irrigation needs, controlling erosion and maintaining a cool microclimate, aligning traditional practices with modern water conservation. #COP29 #Architecture #Design #Sustainability
