As we wrap up for the Christmas break, some news about our chosen charity this year which was Dunelm’s “Delivering Joy”. 🎄 Our CAD Manager Beth chose the “Delivering Joy” campaign to support this year and we were delighted that all our team took tags from one of the in-store Christmas trees and bought and wrapped gifts to be given to local charities - together we supported Ronald McDonald House, Whitegate Animal Sanctuary, Wirral Ark and other local charities providing much needed items. We’re really proud of the team who went above and beyond with their chosen gifts, adding extras in and thanks to Dunelm for a great idea this Christmas. Beth & Gemma, our Director, filled up the car and had fun delivering our gifts to Dunelm in Bromborough on the Wirral. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our clients, suppliers, supporters and friends, as well as all our staff for a great year and wish everyone a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Rather than harp on about what we've done and where we've been, this week's #FridayRoundup focuses on 2 new members of our Team. Tumelo & Ebony have joined our CAD team as we continue to grow. Tumelo joins us with a diploma from Wirral Met College & Ebony has recently completed her Masters in Architecture from LJMU - welcome aboard guys! This week also saw the first Digital Construction North event in Manchester - a much needed and refreshing event that didn’t require a trip down to London 😉 We continue our long-standing relationship with the #maritime industry with projects in and around the Central Docks area of Liverpool involving setting out, GPS & drone work. Here we go for this weeks' #FridayRoundUp. 😎 We were disappointed to learn this week that the amazing Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, Liverpool announced its closure due to limited time available to construct its new building because of significant planning permission delays - another example of poor & drawn out decision making which rests squarely with the planning authority - the local planning process really does need an overhaul. Many Liverpool businesses, including us, support this #charity each year and a city-wide campaign has been setup to raise a target of £5m in the next 30 days - One of the best ways you can help, is by sponsoring our good friend Alan Robson. from Project Four Safety Solutions Ltd. who is undertaking a cycle ride in India next month - link in bio. We've recently had reason to look at the #geographical spread of the 1000s of #projects we've been involved with over the last few years across the UK. The furthest north is #Aberdeen, east is #GreatYarmouth, south is #StIves, Cornwall & west is #CountyMonaghan in Ireland - Geography really isn't a problem for us! To include something on a technical level we were recently asked to survey a sub-surface service tunnel with limited access. To minimise #confinedspace entry we utilised our inverted #laserscanner setup and surveyed the tunnel from surface access points - we really do enjoy getting involved with the difficult #3d #scanning jobs. To cap off a great couple of weeks, our MD attended the annual "getaway" for the Liverpool Branch of Interact National. This year's destination was #Valencia (the 2024 European Green Capital), which didn't disappoint and a great time was had with a great group of fellow #property & #construction professionals. There is an event being put on by Engage Liverpool later this month around sustainability with a focus on Valencia! Link in bio. Another #FridayRoundUp pulled together this week after an encouragingly busy last few weeks. Firstly, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Ben Kacyra, who by many in the #surveying & #mapping industry, would be regarded as the "Father of Laser Scanning". Ben created the first fully integrated 3D laser scanning system in the 1990s, before going on to form CyArk, a not-for-profit organisation whose mission was to digitally record, archive & share the world's most significant cultural heritage sites. A true pioneer of the industry - RIP Ben. The last few weeks has seen us continue our work at New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle as part of the multi-phased #redevelopment of the centre & surrounding areas. We've also been out and about undertaking #surveys across the region with a pipeline of work which will see us working in our capital over the next month or so. Our MD, attended the Building Sustainable Cities Conference in Liverpool, organised by the Liverpool City Region Sustainability Group. It was interesting to see how the local council are looking to address the issues around #sustainability with some bold & aggressive targets. We also attended a CIBSE organised #CPD covering the latest information on the Building Safety Act 2022 - the BSA is an area which continues to provide opportunities for us in regard to our legal & planning service offerings. We came across a disappointing image shared from INTERGEO Expo and Conference in Stuttgart which we’ve included this week as the perception being pedalled by industry suppliers continues to suggest that #Geomatic #Surveyors aren’t really needed and that the latest “black box” in the hands of non-surveyors can dispense with the niche skillsets that we as an industry provide – the problem is we continue to be brought in to solve #measurement & #geospatial problems being created by non-surveyors. One of the key areas highlighted in the BSA is around competence – use the correctly qualified & trained people for the job – and yes, that costs money! Slightly off track, we also attended “Enlightenment”, a spectacular sound & light show in St George’s Hall in Liverpool. The impressive light show was spatially “mapped” to the architectural features of the Grade I listed building’s Great Hall 🏛️ – unfortunately not our work on this occasion, but it does show the diverse requirements for spatially coordinated information. It’s been a while - but we’ve decided to resurect our #FridayRoundUp (on a Sunday this week! 😁). We continue to be busy with projects across the region and further afield. This week saw the completion of all the field work on one of Manchester City Centre’s most exciting developments which has just received planning consent. We’ve worked closely with our strategic partner @geoterra & Mark Hudson MRICS FCInstCES as the project involved various surveying services including topographic surveying, hydrographic surveying, 3D laser scanning, UAV / drone work and will result in a fully BIM-compliant model of the existing mill being delivered to the design team - more to follow on this in the future. Our MD spent some time this week having lunch, over high tide, on Hilbre Island formulating some future plans for the company - he had the whole island to himself - except for a colony of seals! 🦭 🦭 We were also invited to attend Brock Carmichael Architects 50th celebrations at the magnificent @ginomyrestaurant 360 sky bar in #Liverpool which has incredible views over the city. We are proud to have BCA as one of our awesome clients - congratulations guys on this amazing milestone 👊 On a social level, this week saw the completion of FSL’s first season as co-sponsors of @westkirbyunited U7 Yellows team alongside @lbwaccountants - what a season it’s been! 👏 Oh, we also had to indulge in National Fish & Chip day on Thursday which this year coincided with the 80th anniversary of D-Day. We are looking for a geospatial CAD Technician to cover maternity for 6 months with an immediate start and there is potential for the position to become permanent after the contract period. To manage expectations we are NOT after a sub-contractor, someone requiring a lengthy re-location option, someone to work from home or a recruiter to assist us. 👍
