Great to reflect on a year of Constructing Excellence accolades for Teesside University Bios! Following its Constructing Excellence in the North East ‘Building Project of the Year’ and ‘Integration & Collaborative Working’ award wins in June, it went forward to the Constructing Excellence National Awards, once again successful, winning the National ‘Building Project of the Year’ award. "The project was delivered, on time and on budget and all down to the stakeholders working as one team. Achieving a stand out 45/45 score for Considerate Constructors score, the project delivered Teesside’s first BREEAM Outstanding building."
Teeside University has added a new BIOS building as an extension to its School of Health & Life Sciences. The focus is on natural sciences and clinical disciplines such as anatomy, pharmacy, microbiology, and chemistry. The four-storey, 5,000 m² complex includes laboratories, research rooms, and medical teaching spaces. Designed for minimal maintenance over its lifespan, the construction benefits from the use of concrete skin, which offers both durability and a striking visual impact. Not only does the facade provide a clean aesthetic, but it also boasts minimal maintenance, embodying our commitment to long-lasting, high-quality materials. FaulknerBrowns

Named in honour of Professor Paul Younger, a pioneering local scientist, who was instrumental in the effort to establish Newcastle as a City of Science and Technology, the Paul Younger Energy Centre marks a significant milestone toward a cleaner and greener future for Hebburn, UK. The centre generates renewable energy, primarily from natural gas and solar panels and helps the town to become carbon neutral by 2030. Its exterior is clad with specially manufactured concrete skin panels featuring a unique texture. A pattern of matte and sandblasted surfaces creates an extraordinary look and feel for the facade. We are delighted to be part of the design team for the newly announced Sports & Leisure Centre in Stevenage. This project is not just about creating a space; it is about reshaping how communities engage with sports, wellness, and leisure and the new purpose-built centre will bring together multiple facilities under one roof to offer higher-quality, more sustainable amenities for everyone to enjoy. This new space will not only enhance customer experience and accessibility, but also improve efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and lower carbon footprint. With community feedback at the heart of the project, we are working alongside Morgan Sindall Construction and the wider project team to ensure the designs meet the needs of all users. This is all about creating a future-proof space that promotes health, wellbeing, and sports for generations to come. "The new facility compliments and reinforces the council’s ambitious regeneration plans, and we are delighted to be part of the next architectural chapter of Stevenage." - Steve McIntyre, Partner at FaulknerBrowns Learn more about the project through Stevenage Borough Council (https://lnkd.in/eJq7AChH) & Stevenage Even Better (https://lnkd.in/eP-iGbeg) #Stevenage #SportsAndLeisure #Community #Design #Sustainability #FaulknerBrowns #Architecture #HealthAndWellbeing #FutureProof #CustomerExperience

Two years since we first opened the doors to Ravelin Sports Centre and the data coming in is staggering. Not only are we the only stand alone sports centre in the UK to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and DEC A, our building is in the top 1% of most energy efficient buildings in the UK and we are operating 90% more efficiently than our original project brief benchmark all contributing to a saving of approximately £800k a year compared to a traditional wet/dry leisure facility. Crafted in Newcastle. Awarded in Newcastle. We’re so excited to be involved in the inaugural RIBA YAPF Awards tonight at Tyneside Cinema – celebrating the best young architectural talent in the North East. Not only will we be celebrating FaulknerBrowns’ shortlisted entrants: Ashleigh Jayne Muirhead, Harrison Avery, Laura McClorey and Rachael Maclean across multiple categories, but our Associate Architect and RIBA North East Co-Chair, Andrew Thompson, has been a member of the very first judging panel (of course, for categories not involving FaulknerBrowns team members!) To truly mark the occasion, our skilled model makers, Andrew and Abbie Lowdon, have gone the extra mile and produced the first line of YAPF awards in our studio workshop, designed by Dan Hodgson. Crafted with distinct hexagonal shaping, the natural timber finish is complemented by clean, custom rubdown text to ensure lasting pride of place for the winners on the night. Good luck to everybody involved!
