When Extreme E raced in Punta Del Este, Uruguay we partnered with the Organization for Cetacean Conservation (OCC), who exist to protect cetacean species such as the Southern Right Whale, and their supporting ecosystems. Extreme E’s support assisted the OCC’s critical research to better understand threatened marine species through creating a whale photo-ID catalogue, whilst also equipping locals to act as a voice for their protection. May Rovahz, of the OCC said: “A healthy planet begins with a thriving, biodiverse environment, and our wellbeing is deeply connected to the health of the oceans and the Earth. Our efforts focus on the conservation, sustainable use, and regeneration of the Uruguayan sea, and highlighting its importance within a global perspective and a bioregionalism approach." THE OCC’s continued research and education efforts will ensure that breakthroughs, such as the establishment of protected areas to support critical ocean habitats, continues to expand. We’re proud to share that Extreme E has been nominated at one of Europe’s most prestigious sponsorship awards, the 2025 European Sponsorship Association (ESA) Awards in partnership with Pearlfinders. This nomination in the Environmentally Sustainable Sponsorship category reflects our achievements made with hydrogen fuel cell technology alongside our partner ENOWA, as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible for a cleaner, more sustainable future. ENOWA’s development of our hydrogen fuel cell system resulted in powering 80% of the Hydro X Prix site with green hydrogen in July, a landmark achievement not just for Extreme E but for the wider event production industry on the route to decarbonisation.
