Repsol has confirmed it is carrying out maintenance at its Montrose platform as the asset joins the operator’s list of projects to stop production. “Although this was not due to enforcement action by HSE, we are aware of the circumstances of the shutdowns," says the UK’s Health and Safety Executive. Low-carbon hydrogen was identified as “essential” to achieving the government’s clean energy and growth missions in this month's update to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s hydrogen strategy. “Low carbon hydrogen has a unique role to play in supporting the decarbonisation of power and in transitioning vital UK industries away from fossil fuels,” said UK minister of state for industry, Sarah Jones. 🗨 69% of British consumers are supportive of net-zero efforts, but only 33% are willing to pay higher energy premiums, according to Accenture. “Shifting from an asset to a customer focus, energy providers need to get customers on board and create momentum and trust in the net-zero transition,” said Accenture UK resources lead Gavin Moore. National Grid has outlined “unprecedented” plans to invest £35 billion in its electricity-transmission business over the five years to March 2031. “Through it we will nearly double the amount of energy that can be transported around the country, support the electrification of the industries of today and tomorrow, create new jobs, and support inward investment for the UK," said John Pettigrew, chief executive of National Grid.
