We are inviting innovators in sub-Saharan Africa to apply for catalytic grants that support business models harnessing the productive use of renewable energy (PURE) to improve livelihoods, boost incomes, and enhance climate resilience. Who can apply:  - Businesses or non-profit organisations legally registered and/or based in a sub-Saharan African country (excluding South Africa). - Innovators piloting a new business model or pivoting an existing one focused on the productive use of renewable energy.    Funding details:  - Up to 20 grants available, each worth up to EUR 200,000.  - Projects should be 12-24 months in duration. Our partner @MercyCorps is leading a transformative initiative in Senegal that empowers women entrepreneurs through clean energy. The Foyré Rewbé 3 program, supported by @ENERGIA and funded by @Sida, is promoting women’s economic participation in key sectors like dairy, fisheries, and agriculture. By integrating clean energy solutions into these industries, women are gaining access to productive tools that improve efficiency and sustainability. One inspiring leader is Bodiél Sow, founder of the Women Producers Cooperative of Potou. Her work has provided over 2,000 women with access to solar-powered equipment, transforming their farming practices and boosting community resilience. Through training, partnerships, and policy advocacy, Mercy Corps is breaking down systemic barriers and enabling women to thrive as leaders in climate-smart development. In 2024, Mercy Corps formed the "Gender and Energy Task Force," a powerful coalition that advocates for gender-equitable clean energy policies in Senegal. 🗣 The #REAPowerChat On this edition of the #REAPowerChat, we explored practical perspectives on the critical role that Productive Use Equipment (PUE) play in driving social and economic development in last-mile communities. As the REA continues to expand its renewable energy footprint nationwide, the Agency is, in the same vein, working in lockstep with key stakeholders on the frontline of innovative models on PUE for sustainable growth and improved livelihood in Rural Nigeria.
