North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS FT (NCIC) is transforming elective surgery capacity with a data-driven approach. Elective hubs for high-volume, low-complexity (HVLC) procedures can reduce cancellation rates by 11% and increase procedure volume by ~22%. To unlock these benefits, NCIC needed a tailored strategy for optimising their hub configuration. How Edge Health supported this transformation: 🌟Demand & Capacity Modelling: Developed a flexible model using waitlist, theatre, and bed data to quantify HVLC demand by specialty. 🌟Scenario Analysis: Enabled NCIC to simulate various configurations, optimising theatre space, staffing, and bed allocation. 🌟Collaborative Implementation: Partnered with NCIC’s analytics team, ensuring they can sustain and extend this work independently. NCIC is now well-equipped to strategically configure their elective hub, reduce waiting times, and achieve clinical, operational, and financial improvements. 📊💡 #ElectiveHubs #DataDrivenCare #HealthcareInnovation #NCIC #EdgeHealth https://lnkd.in/guBv3g5p

Recently, Edge Health partnered with Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) to optimise theatre capacity in the post-pandemic era. In response to rising demand, CUH sought a sustainable, data-driven approach to balance emergency and elective procedures. We developed a comprehensive model using patient-level data to assess demand by specialty and urgency, aligning it with capacity insights, including staffing and equipment. Key Contributions: 🌟 Conducted in-depth analysis of theatre usage and waiting lists. 🌟 Provided actionable insights to balance emergency care and routine procedures. 🌟 Guided CUH toward an evidence-based theatre scheduling model. 💬 “The team provided externality to affirm our own data modelling and were considerate to the views of stakeholders. It was a positive experience to work with colleagues at Edge Health.” — Linda Clarke, Director of Planned Care. With these insights, CUH can strategically manage waiting lists, better anticipate patient needs, and optimise theatre resources—enhancing efficiency and patient care. 📊💡 #EdgeHealth #TheatreOptimisation #HealthcareInnovation #DataDrivenCare #CUH https://lnkd.in/gs3JwWvk

We are excited to share the findings from our independent national evaluation of the East Midlands Breast Pain Pathway across 9 cancer alliances and 17 centres in England. In 2021, NHS England stated “in the absence of associated red flag symptoms, i.e. lump or skin changes, breast pain alone is not a symptom of cancer and should not be automatically referred on an urgent cancer pathway.”. Historically, up to 20% of referrals onto urgent breast cancer pathways were for patients with breast pain only. The East Midlands Breast Pain Pathway aims to take these patients out of oversubscribed Breast Cancer Diagnosis Pathways and instead directs patients experiencing breast pain only to specialised community-based clinics. The aim of these clinics is to de-medicalise the pathway for patients with breast pain only, reducing patient anxiety and saving vital resources for those who need urgent cancer referrals. This pathway has received several endorsements by NHS England through the GIRFT and Cancer Programmes. It has also received support from various providers, Cancer Alliances and the Association of Breast Surgery. Our team collected and analysed data from over 7,000 Community Breast Pain Clinic attendances. We combined data on clinic attendances, secondary care data, clinic costs, PROMS data, as well as qualitative data from interviews with clinic staff conducted during Spring 2024. We sought to evaluate the economic effectiveness, patient outcomes and patient experience of these clinics. Read our full report that demonstrates how this novel pathway can improve the patient journey for patients experiencing breast pain only. We're proud to share insights from our independent report evaluating AI's role in Dermatology, developed for NHS England. Amidst an 82% surge in waiting lists and a doubling of skin cancer referrals, our July 2024 review reveals how AI holds considerable promise for the NHS. We examined real-world data, analysing over 33,000 lesions assessed by DERM, an AIaMD by Skin Analytics (the only one currently extensively in use in the NHS and with sufficient regulatory approvals to operate autonomously). Through a semi-systematic meta-analysis we determined that AI could match the diagnostic ability of in-person dermatology consultations. This holds potential for prioritising urgent cases, optimising referral processes and offering system savings. Our report takes a critical look at the clinical, operational, and economic implications of AI in Dermatology and underscores the need for robust post-market surveillance to ensure AIaMD's safe and effective use. Read our full report to explore how AI can support the NHS in meeting the rising demand for dermatology services, all while maintaining a commitment to excellence and patient care. 🏥💼 Unlocking Value: The Economic Impact of Clinical Homecare Clinical Homecare emerges as a pivotal solution within the NHS, offering vital care to over 600,000 patients with chronic conditions while alleviating pressure on traditional healthcare systems. Delving deeper into its potential, the National Clinical Homecare Association (NCHA) commissioned a groundbreaking report, conducted by ZPB and Edge Health, to explore the economic implications of Clinical Homecare services. 🔍 A Comprehensive Approach: Methodology Our study adopted a robust methodology, drawing insights from diverse sources including industry indicators, public datasets, patient surveys, and expert interviews. Leveraging health economics analysis, we compared the economic implications of Clinical Homecare against traditional NHS pathways, quantifying benefits in monetary terms and adopting a broad societal perspective. 📊 Key Findings: Unveiling the Economic Benefits Our analysis reveals that Clinical Homecare not only saves the economy £264 million annually by reducing NHS appointments and preserving workforce productivity but also significantly enhances patient well-being. Notably, 75,000 patients circumvent a 40-mile round trip with each delivery, addressing geographical disparities and improving access to care. Moreover, Clinical Homecare adds the equivalent of 15 NHS Trusts' worth of day case elective capacity, further emphasizing its transformative potential.
