“We cannot afford to focus on one technology only.” In case you missed it, Susan McGarry, our Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability published a powerful piece on what needs to be done to decarbonize construction by 2040: https://lnkd.in/d7sg2qYm While industry attention appears to be focused on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) as a silver bullet, the reality is we need a range of solutions if we are to #decarbonize the industry rapidly and cost-effectively. This includes using low-carbon cement and concrete and using these materials much more efficiently. ➡️ Reducing the #clinker content of cement, the key source of emissions, and maximizing the use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) is critical. Low-carbon cement currently comprises approximately 25% of cement consumed in the U.S., and while this is encouraging, more needs to be done. ➡️ We know #cement has a problem - and we have a solution. Our ACT technology is a scalable low-carbon solution that can deliver a 70% reduction in the cement industry’s carbon footprint as early as 2035. Together we can build a cleaner future 🌱 #Ecocem #FutureOfCement #SustainableConstruction #AdvancingNetZero #Innovation #Technology

Three key actions the U.S. can take to accelerate the #decarbonization of the cement industry: 1️⃣ State policy - States can encourage and support the adoption of #LowCarbon cement technology through policies and procurement. While this is currently the case in four states, there is the opportunity for many more to accelerate the adoption of cost-effective, low-carbon solutions. 2️⃣ Industry collaboration - Working together to foster partnerships across the industry and accelerate the adoption of low-carbon #cement and #concrete solutions can meet our common goal of decarbonizing this “hard to abate” sector. 3️⃣ Embrace technological advancements: Adopting low-carbon cement #technologies like ACT can reduce emissions by up to 70% while delivering the required performance in concrete, without excessive additional costs. #FutureOfCement #Innovation #Technology #Sustainability #AdvancingNetZero

2024 has been a remarkable year of growth and innovation for Ecocem🌍 Donal and Conor O’Riain caught up with Ecocem colleagues in an engaging business update ahead of the holiday season. This year our team has been busy turning innovative ideas into groundbreaking realities and in 2024: ✅ We welcomed nearly 50 new team members and a record number of interns, each of whom bring a unique perspective to our business. ✅ Our ACT technology took centre stage this year, earning a coveted European Technical Assessment (ETA) - a giant leap for sustainable construction across Europe. ✅ We’ve announced a number of partnerships to support the development and delivery of ACT to the market. Our commitment to reducing carbon emissions has gathered pace and as we look at 2025, remember, every new discovery, every innovation, every ton of CO2 emissions saved - all adds up. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to our employees, partners, and stakeholders whose commitment has been instrumental to our success.” - Donal O’Riain, Ecocem Founder and Group Managing Director Thank you to everyone involved. Bring on 2025! #Ecocem #FutureOfCement #AdvancingNetZero

The cement industry has a critical opportunity to cut emissions – now. Clinker is the main carbon culprit, but innovative solutions like Ecocem’s ACT #technology are ready to drive rapid reductions. By shifting to #LowCarbon, high-filler, blended cements, we can meet 2030 and 2050 climate targets and build a greener future—faster than ever 🌍 If you’re an International Cement Review subscriber, read our latest on clinker reduction by Ecocem’s Director of Research and Innovation, Roberta Alfani, in the December issue ⬇️ #Ecocem #FutureOfCement #Cement #Concrete #AdvancingNetZero
Inside ICR December 2024 ICR’s December issue looks at west Africa’s push towards self-sufficiency in cement production. Avesta Investment Group outlines the overcapacity in Uzbekistan and the drop in utilisation rates. In addition, ICR charts the development of Japan’s cement industry and its new goals to contribute to the circular economy and install carbon capture technology. Meanwhile, ICR reports on Summit Materials’ alternative fuel project at its Davenport plant, USA. Bert Labs also explains how environmental performance is enhanced with AI-IoT. Last week our Technical Director for the U.S. Mike Donovan, P.E., FACI and Director of Product Development and Standardization Christian Clergue, joined forces to engage fellow industry leaders in the U.S. on the future of cement and its standards at the ASTM International Committee Week. They briefed members on our scalable, #LowCarbon cement technology, ACT, and the need to update ASTM specifications to incorporate the use of these new-generation cements. Adapting #CementStandards, in Europe and the USA, to account for recent innovations will allow the industry to deploy more low-carbon solutions quickly and on a larger scale. “Europe set to breach 2030 climate goals based on current policies” by Matt Mace for edie: https://lnkd.in/dKHfNybH ➡️ There is a real opportunity to accelerate the availability of #LowCarbon cement technologies, like Ecocem’s ACT to meet Europe’s climate goals. ➡️ Low-carbon #cement technologies that can halve emissions within the decade without compromising performance or requiring huge investment are still underused and overlooked. ➡️ In construction, ACT #technology provides the cement industry with a unique opportunity to become the first industrial sector to achieve a 1.5C #decarbonisation trajectory. 📸: Shutterstock - Paul Barbar
