Dr Falk Pharma UK was established in 2005 to provide the Dr Falk organisation with its own company in the UK and Ireland. Dr Falk Pharma is a family owned business based in Freiburg, Germany developing medicine to treat a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders and hepatobiliary disorders for over 60 years. Guided by the Falk philosophy, Dr Falk UK is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through working alongside healthcare professionals, researchers and patients to develop therapies that work for people not just diseases. Are you, or do you know of, a medical student intercalating in a gastroenterology or hepatology linked subject in the previous academic year (2023/24), a resident doctor working in an area of GI research, or a dietitian, nurse or pharmacist working on a project to improve patient care within GI?  If so, don’t miss your opportunity to enter the Dr Falk Guts UK 2025 Awards, for the chance to win financial awards and recognition, receive project support and enjoy networking opportunities with some of the most well-known names from across GI, hepatology and pancreatology. For more info on entry requirements, follow the link above.   MEDICAL STUDENT ESSAY AWARD (£1,000) For the best essay on gastroenterology research personally undertaken by medical students studying on an intercalated BSc/MRes/MSc/MD/MPH/MBPhD course during the previous academic year (2023/2024). FOUR MEDICAL STUDENT AWARDS (£1,500) For medical students taking a full-time science degree (BSc/MRes/MSc/MPH/MBPhD) focusing on GI in the current academic year. TWO F1/F2 RESEARCH GRANTS (£2,500) For F1/F2 doctors to facilitate prospective research in an area relevant to gastroenterology. DIETITIAN RECOGNITION AWARD (£1000): For dietitians working in GI on initiatives to improve patient care. NURSE RECOGNITION AWARD (£1000): For primary and secondary care nurses working in GI on initiatives to improve patient care. PHARMACIST RECOGNITION AWARD (£1,000): For pharmacists working in GI on initiatives to improve patient care. SPR TRAINEE AUDIT/QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AWARD Up to £10,000 is available for GI SpR trainees who would like to conduct an audit or quality improvement project in any area of gastroenterology or nutrition. This award can be shared between different projects and entrants, therefore the application can be submitted for an amount lower than £10,000.

The €1,000 Prize is awarded for an initiative in primary or secondary care that has improved patient care within Ireland. Previous winning projects include ‘The Introduction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Preconception and Pregnancy Education Clinic’ a ‘Gastroenterology Active Triage (GAT) at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) and the ‘Design, Delivery and Evaluation of Specialist Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Educational Programme.’ Entries close on Friday 29th November. Now it in its fifth year the Awards are becoming a valued fixture in the Irish IBD Nursing Calendar. The 2025 will be presented at the IBD Nurse Association of Ireland (IBDNAI) national meeting in January by the Association Chair Angela Mullen.   • Are you attending the annual meeting of the European Foregut Society on 5–7th November at the Royal Society of Medicine in central London? Professor Stephen Attwood warmly invites you to join him in Session 2, ‘Oesophageal Physiology & Symptoms,’ and afterwards at his keynote ‘state of the art’ talk on the Upper GI disorder, Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE). Session 2, which runs from 9.30 am until 11.30 am on 6th November,  will see leading European experts bring their varying perspectives to discuss the latest research and clinical thinking around common, yet challenging Upper GI issues, including reflux, ineffective motility and aerophagia/belching/rumination. It will close with an open discussion on the topics covered. The Session will be followed at 11.45 am, by the keynote lecture by Professor Attwood, a world leading expert on EOE, entitled ‘EoE. State of the Art. Where are we today?’ The European Foregut Society is a leading association in Europe concerning any upper abdominal diseases. It aims to fosters collaboration and exchange of ideas throughout Europe, across disciplines and between clinicians in the management of patients with benign foregut disease and pre-malignancy. This is the 4th Annual Meeting and will cover topics including interventional treatment for GORD in 2024, reflux LPR and respiratory conditions, gastric emptying and chronic nausea/vomiting, and Barretts oesophagus.
