About us
Disability Arts Online (DAO) is a charitable arts organisation led by disabled people. We serve artists and arts audiences who face disabling barriers and, in doing so, enable social change. We occupy a unique global position with our website showcasing disability arts content, artist development programme, partnership work, accessible events and vibrant community of disabled creatives. Our mission is to champion disability arts and culture by nurturing creativity, connection and critique. Established in 2004, DAO has a rich history of challenging dominant narratives from a disability-led position in order to support sector change. We recognise that disability is an intersectional experience that can be isolating. Through our work, we create empowering opportunities for marginalised voices to be appreciated and understood. Disability Arts Online’s work is supported by Arts Council England.

Our Content Creator and Digital Influencer, Deen Hallissey, and current Associate, Revell Dixon – essentially a DAO supergroup of content producers – come together to discuss all things Christmas with an art sector twist 🎄 Here's the trailer for you to enjoy. Head over to our YouTube channel to watch the full Christmas Crossover playlist https://lnkd.in/eHJGDhGe 🎥 Video description: Revell (wearing a jumper with a Christmas bobbles pattern) and Deen sit in armchairs across from each other. They each have a microphone on a stand next to them and there is a table in between them with a pile of Christmas crackers on it. During the video, they pull the crackers together.

Today is the United Nation's International Day of Person's with Disabilities. This year we were proud to award our second round of grants under the disability justice fund, providing over £1m to 14 projects across London. The theme of this year's #IDoPWD is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future", emphasising the slogan "Nothing about us without us." This embodies the work of so many of the organisations we fund under our disability justice work. All of the projects are led by Deaf and/or Disabled people in London. The projects and organisations range hugely – from inclusive arts organisations, to grassroots groups led by people with learning difficulties. Together they are working to diversify the disability sector and build the capacity of Deaf and Disabled people’s organisations to campaign for change. Flick through below to learn about the inspiring projects funded under our disability justice fund both this year and under our first round last year. Head over to the DAO blog in the coming weeks to find a series of posts by Access All Areas celebrating the Transforming Leadership National programme. These blogs will feature learning disabled and autistic leaders from arts companies around the UK, sharing what leadership and this process means to them. Following those stories in March 2025, AAA and partners will share practical solutions for increasing learning disabled and autistic creative employment at an event (more details to be revealed soon). First up in the series is a post by Paul Christian, Deputy Chairperson of Access All Areas. Paul discusses his ideas about training others, seeing his experience reflected, and imagining the perfect board meeting. Visit https://lnkd.in/e73JyKjT 📸 Image description: A designed tile featuring a background image of Transforming Leadership National’s workshop with four people in a bright space. Three participants are sitting in a circle. Helen, the workshop leader, is standing next to the circle. She is holding a water bottle and laughing as a participant talks to her. On the design, text reads: "Transforming Leadership National Blog” along with Disability Arts Online and AAA Logos. There is also the illustration that represents the Transforming Leadership programme, two hands joined together seemingly holding various floating icons.
