About us

Are you a social entrepreneur hunting for that first cheque? But you’re struggling to find investors who understand your mission and vision, facing difficulty in securing funding to kickstart your impactful venture. Your extraordinary talent is getting overlooked by investors but you’re scared of getting left behind. Then I'm here to help... - We find extraordinary, social entrepreneurs - Secure them investment from our community - Support them to grow In the first 10 months of operating, we have raised over £500k for purpose-driven start-ups. If that wets your appetite, feel free to DM me. 💜 I'm a social entrepreneur turned impact investor. I founded Daring Capital to invest in extraordinary, underrepresented entrepreneurs creating profitable companies that make the world a better place. Our focus is on early stage businesses working with disadvantaged groups such as women, ethnic minorities and those experiencing mental health challenges 🚲Prior to this, I founded the Bike Project in March 2013. We refurbish second-hand bikes to refugees in London and Birmingham. We grew to £2.5m ARR and we we have given away over 11,000 bikes and supported many more refugees through our other programmes. We have won several awards including The European Union Social Innovation competition and The best charity at the National Lottery Awards. I personally won the Lloyds Banking Group Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2015. ⭐ I'm on the social investment committees for two large foundations and I have previously been on the boards of several charities.

Investing in Extraordinary Purpose-led Founders. Follow for posts about securing your first cheque

You spoke. We listened. We are about to re-open applications for our next cohort. But this time they won't close. One of the consistent pieces of feedback we have had from founders is that they would like to always be able to apply and for applications to be assessed on a rolling basis. The benefits are: 👍 Founders can apply when it suits them, not in pre-determined windows 👍 If you are rejected, you can work on the feedback and resubmit quickly rather than waiting for the next cohort. 👍 For us, we can have more time to assess applications and give more feedback, rather than waiting until after a deadline We will still have deadlines by which you need to apply to be eligible for the next showcase - so keep an eye out for them. We are opening applications tomorrow and you can register here to be the first to know: https://lnkd.in/eW9xMy4N What do you think of the change?

2 weeks ago I walked into a photoshoot dressed all in black. I have a terrible fashion sense and I'm a bit colourblind so the idea of a photoshoot caused a lot of amusement among my friends. When I arrived, they realised my t-shirt was too baggy so I had to tie it at the back with the photographer's hairband to keep it flat-ish in the pics. The whole thing was in the name of the Foundervine awards as I was lucky enough to be nominated for ally of the year. Thanks to Cecil and the team for the nomination 😍 In all seriousness, it's been a privelege to work with so many talented founders from black and racial minority backgrounds over the past year. This nomination is a great way of publicising our work and hopefully more founders will see it and apply. PS - it's a public vote and if you want to support me you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eY5_aY8x
