This morning in Toronto we had a workshop on how you can leverage generative AI for education and training. Here are some highlights: 💡 You can use a framework to get better results with structured prompts. Even just taking the simple steps of providing a role and goal will increase the quality of your GenAI results. 👉 Be curious and experiment with tools to find a workflow that’s right for your needs. We discussed the pros and cons of popular tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude and how you can use them as a learning experience design assistant. Ryan James shared how he uses Perplexity and NotebookLM for research, ChatGPT to brainstorm, and Claude as a second set of eyes. ⚙️ Try combining different tools for different use cases to improve results. I really dislike spreadsheets for learning design 👎. At FutureLearn we (the Learning team) maximised the potential of the humble spreadsheet. We added formatting, vlookups, heading sheets, data insights, explainers, templates and more. Then we shared them with global education leaders and SMEs. Hundreds of them. The return was always full of ideas, comments and additions - great! Collaboration ✨. But it was painful and obviously, we should aim higher. So I'm sharing what the same learning design looks like in Coursensu - and why. Because however you do it, your design process can have MORE: 💎 Clarity - visual, interactive, engaging. 🙋🏽♂️ Collaboration - beyond the margins, tailored, flexible. ⚡️ Capability - smarter, connected, powerful. Spreadsheets rock, when you need a calculation. Spreadsheets suck, when you want to design for learning. I want us to stop locking our ideas in cells. I want us to move beyond designing in sheets, docs, whiteboards and slides. I know, because I worked with hundreds of you, that whatever you're using is probably 'OK'. But you deserve better than OK. As Honda once said, what if?
