This week, a piece of motorsport history headed to Cosworth as the Dewar Trophy made its way to our Northampton HQ. This prestigious accolade, awarded by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC), holds a special place in our story. In 1969, Cosworth was recognised with this honour for the revolutionary design of the DFV Formula 1 engine, a moment that cemented British engineering excellence on the global stage. Fast forward to 2024, and Cosworth has once again been awarded the Dewar Trophy for our pioneering work in developing bespoke, ultra high-performance, naturally-aspirated internal combustion engines. These marvels of engineering don’t just redefine what’s possible in performance – they also set new global standards for sustainability and innovation. To mark this celebratory moment, the Cosworth work family was honoured to welcome back our co-founder Mike Costin, and former Managing Director Dick Scammell. This is a poignant reminder of the legacy our founders Mike and Keith Duckworth built – and how their spirit continues to inspire our team today. As we gather to celebrate this monumental industry recognition, we’re reminded that our success is built on more than engineering excellence – it’s built on people, passion, and the drive to push boundaries. This week, Cosworth welcomed students aged 16 to 18 from the London Design & Engineering UTC to our Northampton HQ for a day packed with learning, challenges and inspiration. From a CV and apprenticeship masterclass to hearing from our talented apprentices about their career journeys so far, the day was designed to help these aspiring student engineers take their next step into the automotive and motorsports industries. Highlights from the day included a hands-on looms challenge, an engine sales pitch task and a behind-the-scenes tour of Cosworth. The energy and enthusiasm the students brought to the day was infectious, and it was a privilege for our team to share insights and guidance on apprenticeships and careers in engineering.
