About us
CORNERSTONE is an open source, license free Silicon Photonics rapid prototyping foundry operating from the Universities of Southampton & Glasgow in the UK. We established CORNERSTONE as we had a vision for a “researcher’s” foundry, where new ideas could be tested away from rigid process flows and PDKs hidden in IP black boxes. From the outset, we were adamant that everything would be open-source to facilitate innovation and advance the field in a more collaborative and transparent manner. We base our fabrication capability around deep-UV lithography to simplify the scale-up process. Our initial goal was to serve the UK academic community, but our vision quickly gained global resonance. Now, we proudly support collaborators in over 20 countries. 🚀 Wave Photonics launches fabrication-aware scattering parameters (S-parameters) which facilitate users to assess the suitability and performance of Wave Photonics’ components for different #integrated #photonics applications. 💡 Users will benefit from S-parameters by incorporating into their circuits our components and testing them by using circuit simulation software. ➕ S-parameters tools offered by Wave Photonics are now available for CORNERSTONE silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and Silicon Nitride (SiN) PDKs. The 𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 is pleased to announce its involvement in 𝗣𝗜𝗫𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲, a prestigious European consortium advancing photonic chip technologies. As one of only two UK participants, CORNERSTONE will contribute to this €380 million initiative, funded by the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 and Chips Joint Undertaking , to develop photonic chips that are faster and more energy-efficient than traditional electronic chips. These transformative technologies will address critical challenges across key sectors, including: • 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 • 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 • 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝗔𝗜, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 With £4.2 million in UK funding, CORNERSTONE and the University of Cambridge will focus on integrating graphene into silicon photonic circuits, paving the way for energy-efficient, high-speed communications and advanced quantum devices.
