Mark your calendars. 📅 On 10 January 2025, we will release the Global Climate Highlights 2024. The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) will present the most significant findings from 2024, almost certainly the hottest year on record and the first to cross the 1.5°C threshold. Dive with us into climate data, insights into global trends and their implications. Stay tuned. #CopernicusClimate ECMWF Users Carlo Buontempo Samantha Burgess, PhD Laurence Rouil Richard Engelen Mark P. European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts

About us
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) are two services of the European Union’s Copernicus Earth Observation Programme implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) on behalf of the European Commission. 🌍🛰️🔴 The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) provides authoritative information about the world’s past, present and future climate. Our freely accessible high-quality data, tools and information help businesses, scientists and policymakers to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change. We directly support businesses in climate-sensitive sectors, such as energy, health and insurance, to develop valuable tools for real-world problems. This stimulates other organisations to create their own applications based on our data. ▶️ climate.copernicus.eu 🌍🛰️🔵 The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) provides quality-controlled information related to air pollution and health, solar energy, greenhouse gases and climate forcing, across the world. We support policymakers, businesses and citizens by providing atmospheric environmental information, available as analyses and forecasts. We work with a diverse range of industries which use our information products to provide a set of unrivalled services. These include numerous air quality apps, wildfire analysis and solar radiation evaluation among many others. ▶️ atmosphere.copernicus.eu We invite all businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, to get in touch to find out how data can be used to create commercially viable products with the aim of protecting and sustaining our environment.

As what is almost certainly the hottest year on record comes to an end, how accurate is the ERA5 temperature data? Read the article: https://lnkd.in/e5nCvvdj Combining conventional weather observations and data from satellites with a computer model of the Earth system, ERA5 effectively fills observational gaps. As well as explaining the details, the article also shows how ERA5 compares with other datasets such as JRA-3Q and MERRA-2. #C3S #CopernicusClimate

How will Copernicus evolve to meet global environmental, emergency and security challenges? Read the article https://lnkd.in/dDZzN3WU The new CORDIS Results Pack presents the work of 10 EU-funded projects that aimed to lead to new developments within the Copernicus services. One of them, the CoCO2 project—coordinated by CAMS Deputy Director Richard Engelen—paved the way for the #CopernicusAtmosphere Monitoring Service efforts to implement an operational system for monitoring anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.
