On November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we attended a profoundly moving event at Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust hosted by 4Wings, one of our grant holders. 4Wings works with refugee and asylum-seeking women, helping them navigate systems, escape abuse, and build supportive communities. The day highlighted harrowing topics such as femicide, partner violence, and the disproportionate impact of environmental and institutional violence on women. Personal stories from speakers brought these issues painfully close, complemented by powerful statistics reminding us of the global scale of this crisis. A standout moment was an interpretive dance performance by Movema and 4Wings members, symbolising their resilience and sense of freedom through community support. The shared joy of dancing together was a powerful reminder of hope amidst difficult discussions. The event ended with a poignant tree-planting ceremony in Sefton Park to honour women lost to violence. This tree serves as both a memorial and a call to action for a better, safer future. Engaging in events like this keeps us informed and reminds us why we do what we do: to support communities making a real difference. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #CommunityImpact #HopeAndAction

We had the pleasure of taking the High Sheriff of Merseyside, Professor John M. Mohin OBE D.Univ DL, and Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dr Ruth Hussey CB, OBE, DL Dr Ruth Hussey to some of our ‘Seeing is Believing’ visits to hear firsthand the incredible impact community groups funded by the ‘High Sheriff and Merseyside Police Fund’ are making. We met the inspiration team at Ariel Trust, led by Paul and Helen, who have used a grant from us to engage with young people, parents, teachers and the police to create a safe space to discuss issues faced whilst using social media. Our next visit was to the The Joseph Lappin Centre and Deaf Active, where community leaders Colleen and Katie are using the funds to combat knife crime by engaging at-risk young people in creative writing and storytelling. We have been a trusted partner of the High Sheriff and the Police for over 15 years, distributing funding to community groups that’s work prevents crime, in line with their charity aims. If you are part of a public sector organisation and would like to join us on a ‘Seeing is Believing’ visit or to discuss your organisations charitable aims, please get in touch.

A fantastic day spent at the Opening Doors Project in Walton. The Opening Doors Project created by community leader Gayle was set up in 2014 in response to a lack of social and community based activities in her area. Growing from a one-off disco into a schedule of events that happen almost every day. We along with UK Community Foundations and ZEAL Creative team had the privilege of meeting Gayle, her team of volunteers and all the lovely community members to hear the difference a grant from Anchor Butter (Arla Foods) 'Spreading Good in the Neighbourhood' fund has made! If your business wants to make an impact in your local community or join us on a 'Seeing is Believing' visit to grassroots organisations the Community Foundation for Merseyside team is here to help.
