  • "Unrealistic" and "impossible to achieve" — that's how local councils are describing the government’s flagship plan to build 1.5 million new homes in England over the next five years, according to a new BBC article. Many councils cite "a lack of capacity in the planning system and construction industry" as major obstacles to the plan’s success. Our recent research report on local authority staffing procurement clearly demonstrated this concern, with 83% of respondents stating that talent shortages are having a mid - or high-level impact on their authority’s ability to deliver essential services to constituents. “More work needs to be done to promote the career opportunities and attractiveness of working in local government,” stated one respondent. “Especially to younger people, many of whom are finding it very difficult to find a suitable career pathway and opportunities in the private sector.” Find out more about where the skills shortages lay and what local authority leaders are looking to do to overcome these challenges. To celebrate their 90th anniversary, the British Council brought together the artists, partners, supporters and sponsors who have contributed to 90 years of global impact. The evening featured vibrant performances from the Notting Hill Carnival group and Damon Albarn. • Yesterday was International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Impellam Group were so pleased to welcome an inspirational guest speaker Jennifer Addis, who promotes awareness for individuals living with paralysis. It was an opportunity for the team to find out more about the support we can give people with disabilities, both in a work environment working with clients, partners and team members, and in our personal lives. There are many things that we take for granted in our day to day lives that affect disabled people. By asking questions and making reasonable adjustments we can all make it easier for disabled people to maintain meaningful employment.  For more information on disability equality at work click here. https://lnkd.in/eZ5ftiV6
