And so, after 3 years of hard work from many people we are delighted to have finally received planning consent for the redevelopment of No.1 Stokes Croft in Bristol, home to the iconic Mickleburgh Musical Instruments. Colico and Mickleburgh have worked collaboratively to enable this project to progress. Mickleburgh have owned this site since 1903 and are in desperate need of new reimagined space to continue and expand their presence in Stokes Croft for future Bristolian generations to enjoy. There will inevitably need to be a period of relocation, but we look forward to welcoming them back upon completion of their new 15,000 sqft music hub which incorporates recording, tuition and practice studios, event space and a modern fit for purpose retail unit. This BREAAM Excellent building will also be home to 126 students on the upper floors. Very special thanks to our design team who have maintained belief in the proposals from the beginning, especially Tom Rocke Chris Parker-Jones James Wainwright ECE Westworks Shear Design Ltd Avril Baker Lisa Timberlake MSc MRICS Jon Stewart Hydrock, now Stantec Heritage Places Amie Griffiths Trevor Newman

This is certainly one of the most interesting projects we have been involved in. We are working closely with the Mickleburgh family to bring their current dilapidated premises into the next generation of retailing. Its a tricky retailing environment out there and they have a desperate need to diversify in order to remain viable. They have occupied their Stokes Croft site since 1903, other than a Luftwaffe necessitated relocation in the early 1940s for a few years. Our excellent design team have worked hard with Mickleburgh and their advisors, and the plans include a 'Music Hub' on the lower floors, catering for all things musical including event space, recording studios, practice rooms and of course retailing. This can only be achieved with the creation of additional value on the upper floors, which will be much needed Bristol student accommodation. We just need planning now...... Following on from my visit to Kidderminster Creative Hub, we were very pleased to host Joe Oxford and Thomas Taylor from Court Collaboration along with Robert Kay from MGAC on a tour of our recently completed £20m 159-bed PRS development Paradise View. The high standard of finish was clear to see and it is a great addition to our portfolio of work in the centre of Birmingham. As we are now seeing on many upcoming developments, this was a complex refurbishment project which involved significant structural strengthening works designed by our in-house team and included adding a storey to the existing building to create more lettable space for our client. We have enjoyed working with Colico Living Ltd TOPLAND GROUP PLC Abacus Cost Consultants Ltd DAY Architectural Ltd Shear Design Ltd CPW and all of our supply chain on bringing this important scheme forward. #building #business #build #architecture #design #innovation #change #new #property #development #construction #renovation #sustainable #environment #residential #home
