We represent the manufacturers and distributors supplying cleaning and hygiene products in the UK.
About us
Run by our members for our members, the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers’ Association represents manufacturers and distributors of cleaning and hygiene products in the UK. We operate Accreditation Schemes. They are for manufacturers of paper-based products, plastic-based products, cotton-based products and cleaning and hygiene chemicals, for general manufacturers and for distributors of cleaning and hygiene products. Every member has signed our Code of Practice, which incorporates the Competition & Markets Authority’s Green Claims Code. Together, our Accreditations Schemes and Code of Practice guarantee members: • trade ethically and sustainably; • provide quality, fit for purpose products; and • make sure ‘what’s on the box is what’s in the box’. Our Standards. Your Guarantee. Our Roadmap to Sustainability is designed to help members move in the right direction, whatever their starting position. Developed using the expertise from within our members, it has been built on five key pillars: product, packaging, transportation, social values and corporate environmental impact. We also have a tradition of giving something back, operating an undergraduate bursary scheme and raising thousands of pounds each year for our nominated charity.

The CHSA has campaigned and worked hard on behalf of members in 2024, promoting the importance of membership to buyers and end users of cleaning and hygiene products. 2024 highlights are: ✅ Over 140 audits conducted this year. Over 1,700 labels and 1,000 products were checked across all our Manufacturing Schemes. Under our Distributor Scheme we checked over 31,250 products from Accredited Manufacturers and 4,000 products from non-accredited manufacturers. ✅ 10 new members were welcomed after they completed due diligence and passed their audit. ✅ New manufacturing logos were introduced to avoid confusion about which products are accredited. ✅ Our Regulations Matter campaign is highlighting the importance of regulations when buying cleaning chemicals. ✅ We continued our Roadmap to Sustainability with additional Fact Sheets. ✅ We represented and hosted members at the Manchester Cleaning Show. ✅ We sponsored the BICSc Awards. ✅ Four Bursaries were awarded to the children of our members employees. ✅ A sell out Gala Ball meant we were able to donate £10,000 to Grief Encounter. ✅ We maintained a presence in the cleaning and hygiene media throughout the year, often with thought leadership articles. The evolution and regulation of cleaning chemicals: webinar recording now available Buyers and end users of cleaning chemicals want environmentally sustainable, safe and effective products. An abundance of gobble-de-gook or undefined phrases, including ‘chemical-free’, ‘natural’, ‘five times filtered water’, and ‘non-toxic’, peppering sales and marketing materials make it very difficult for them. In our free webinar, Peter Thistlethwaite, Technical Manger - Cosmetics and Biocides at MSL Solution Providers, provided the information they need to avoid being misled. He also answered a range of questions, including: 1. Is there a commonly accepted definition of sustainable? 2. Do you think regulations that govern chemicals should also cover biologicals and enzyme technology? And how far away from it are we? 3. If you know there is a product on the market which is being marketed as tested to EN1276 but actually has no certification, what do you do to challenge this? His slides and the webinar recording are now available on our website. https://lnkd.in/ek5-wazJ
