On NYE our police cadets were on crime prevention and engagement patrols aimed at preventing phone snatching and bag theft. Did you see any of them?
About us
Policing the Square Mile brings with it particular challenges, quite unlike any other policing area within the UK. The City of London is the world’s leading international financial and business centre. It is an area where disruption to ‘business as usual’ would have significant impact on the diverse range of business interests located here. We are committed to fighting crime at all levels. Although we fulfil a national role tackling fraud and other serious criminality, our local role is no less important to us.

City of London Police reposted this
**Reflections ahead of 2025** I sit here at home with a mind full of things I want to achieve, most notably to take the City of London Police (CoLP) to new outstanding heights. But as the year draws to an end, it is important to reflect on yesterday before we prepare for tomorrow. 2024 has been an incredible year and for this I am truly grateful to all my officers and staff for their hard work, and the support we continue to receive from our partners we do policing with. Although too many to mention there are some key memories. In July we launched our new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy, kicking off our journey to becoming one of the most inclusive police forces in the country, receiving a silver award from Inciusive Employers giving us one of the highest scores across policing. We also celebrated our first ever all female Chief Superintendent team! CoLP continued on its mission to build a proactive fraud fighting system. Working with partners, we did earlier in the year demonstrate a 13% reduction in fraud, and our policing proactive regional fraud teams have been investigating over 1500 significant frauds. We jointly delivered Henhouse III, a nationwide intensification police operation to investigate fraud, resulting in near 500 arrest/seizure of assets worth £19m. We saw a 50% increase in protests related mainly to the sad ongoing conflict in the Middle East managing to successfully maintain core 24/7 policing to protect the City. Our operations have seen many results, including a two-year prison sentence for Sonny Stringer, a prolific phone thief who stole 24 mobile phones in a single morning. We launched our new cycle team. Within the team’s first two months of existence they made 118 arrests, provided advice and guidance to over 11,000 people and had security marked 289 bikes! We celebrated 10 years since the launch of the revolutionary “Project Servator” here in the City. Since its launch, Project Servator has grown into a national and international policing tactic deployed across almost all metropolitan hubs and major airports. CoLP was awarded the prestigious Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award by the Ministry of Defence, recognising our support and commitment to the Armed Forces community. We also progressed our fraud and cyber people strategy, intiating new apprenticeships, internships and the first ever direct entry fraud detective scheme launchingin 2025. The Home Office announced a new pilot Domestic Corruption Unit to be hosted by CoLP to bolster the excellent work and leadership in this space led by the SFO. This is now in place. We’ve launched new strategies for community policing and victims, and I’m excited to see the impact this will have across our local communities. We also delivered one of the highest crime detection outcome rates across the UK at well over 20%. Finally, this year saw the return of our Force Awards, celebrating the hard work and achievements of our people. Onwards ahead!

The quick actions of two City of London Police officers have been praised, following vital intervention on a man who collapsed in a pub. On Wednesday 11 December, Inspector Eamonn Keane and Police Sergeant Hollie Fraser, rushed to a pub near Bishopsgate Police Station at around 11:30pm, after a member of bar staff had alerted officers to a man needing medical attention. Insp Keane and PS Fraser grabbed a defibrillator from the police station and attended the scene in less than a minute, where they found a 22-year-old man on the floor. “It was really busy inside the pub and there was a crowd around him as some people tried to help, but from just the first look at him we knew he wasn’t breathing, we had to clear the people out of the way so we could put him on his back and help him,” Insp Keane said. The officers got straight to work to help the man, with PS Fraser starting Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Insp Keane preparing and using the defibrillator. “While we were assisting the man, we did identify agonal breathing from the casualty,” PS Fraser said. “And we immediately knew we couldn’t stop CPR.” They continuously provided CPR and used the defibrillator for around three minutes, until the arrival of City of London Police’s firearms officers, who can provide advanced medical care, such as assisting with airways and providing oxygen until the ambulance arrived. Inspector Keane, 47, has been with the force for 19 years. He said instinct just kicked in when they were called for help. “After years of training and doing first aid for a number of years, we knew what we needed to do and the mission was to keep performing CPR,” he said. Thirty-one-year-old PS Fraser, who has been with City of London Police for seven years agreed. She said: “It’s also making sure we’re doing everything we can for the casualty and making sure additional help is on the way.” The officers also highlight the importance of having a defibrillator nearby as well as first aid training. “We were able to immediately give life-saving first aid to the man. When London Ambulance Service (LAS) arrived, we heard that there was a pulse and he was stabilised before he was taken into the ambulance,” Insp Keane said. PS Fraser added: “It’s also important to mention the team work across our force, the support from the tactical firearms group, and from the LAS.” Commander Umer Khan, City of London Police, said: “I’d like to commend Inspector Keane and Police Sergeant Fraser for their quick actions in performing life-saving first aid. They showed remarkable composure given the circumstances and acted swiftly and decisively to help save the man’s life. “I am really proud of the work of our team, from the first response officers to our firearms officers, working together to help the young man and get him to hospital.”

As the national lead force for fraud, we sat down with FYI Investigates on Sky News to discuss the various frauds that target children. This includes social media hacking and advance fee fraud for clothes, shoes and in-game purchases. Our advice to children is: 🔐 Set up two-factor authentication and avoid using a password that could easily be guessed. Never share your password with anyone other than a parent or guardian. 💳 Disable the contactless function on any debit cards you have. ⚠️ Avoid buying clothes and services on social media platforms. Use legitimate apps or websites where payment is released to the seller after confirmation that the item has been received. 🎮 Keep game credits low on any accounts that you have access to. 🏦 If you have lost money, report it as soon as possible to your bank and to Action Fraud.
