The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)'s GEM Report reveals alarming statistics: 62 billion kg of #ewaste was generated globally in 2022, equating to 7.8 kg per person. Yet only 22.3% was responsibly recycled. As e-waste generation outpaces recycling by a factor of five, the urgency for #sustainable action is clear. At Circular Computing, we focus on extending the lifespan of laptops through #remanufacturing. Remanufactured laptops involve disassembling used devices, repairing or replacing damaged components and reassembling them into fully functional products. This process can significantly reduce the need for new manufacturing, conserving resources and minimising e-waste. The IT industry has a colossal footprint when it comes to #water. Approximately 190,000 litres of water is used in the extraction, refining & production of just one new #laptop and its components. In addition, most of our generated #ewaste is discarded in landfill sites in Africa and Asia. The #ITindustry must do better. We promote intelligent re-use and make a huge impact in water avoidance, but our partnership with charity: water helps to make a real, tangible difference to human life. Circular Computing along with National Grid, Microsoft, National Energy System Operator, Nexthink and Dell Technologies is proud to collaborate with Atos to tackle sustainable laptop battery usage and reduce grid demand during peak times.   Watch the video here.

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) is dedicated to providing essential services to its diverse community. When faced with the challenge of improving digital access for underprivileged children, the Borough partnered with Circular Computing to repurpose their outdated #IT assets into valuable #educational resources. Circular Computing provided comprehensive reverse logistics and IT asset disposition (ITAD) services, including data destruction, collection, asset tracking and reporting. The market value of LBBD's laptops covered the #ITAD costs, and the surplus funds were reinvested to procure 350 #remanufactured Chromebooks. These Chromebooks were distributed across 35 schools, ensuring digital access for 350 children while establishing a benchmark for #sustainable and #ethical practices within local government.
