At Channel 3, we believe there is a real #CauseForOptimism in social care. At #NCASC24, we brought together over 100 care leaders and people with lived experience to discuss the shared vision for a better future for care, together with our partners Lilli and Sentinel Partners. Among the many contributors, we heard from Rich Amos who touched on the importance of integrating digital solutions to support individuals across their life journey; Sir David Pearson, who highlighted the transition from analogue to digital and the aggregation of data to inform and manage risk; and Manchester’s Bernadette Enright, who shared optimism about improvements in prevention and strength-based approaches. These conversations explored not just the challenges but the opportunities to reshape care in ways that improve outcomes and long-term sustainability. At the close of the session, we then asked leaders where they needed the most support to achieve this vision in their local areas. Four key priorities emerged: 1. 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 to navigate complexity and drive change. 2. 𝗖𝗼-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 to ensure services meet real needs. 3. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 to enable modern, effective care. 4. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 to help people avoid crises and live healthier, longer lives. The dialogue underscored the importance of collaboration, bold action, and a clear focus on outcomes. We’re proud to be part of this ongoing conversation. Let us know if you’d like to discuss how these priorities could help shape the future of care in your organisation. #LeadershipInCare #CoProduction #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfCare

Here’s a lovely #CauseForOptimism. When Leicestershire County Council interviewed staff users to find out their reactions to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s (LLR) Care Record project, one member of staff memorably said: “We have been crying out for this… It’s brilliant to have. It is a game changer in our area.” A series of staff interviews revealed benefits including • Saving time for colleagues in accessing information and removing the need to make phone calls (for example, to GP practices) to find out more information about a person’s care • Gaining a broader understanding of an individual requesting care and making it easier and quicker to direct them to the most appropriate source of support • Knowing where a person is on their care pathway so that support can be provided at the best time for them Channel 3 Consulting spent over two years with LLR to help establish the programme, which is now live for more than 5,000 users and has been rolled out across adult social care in Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council, and to East Midlands Ambulance Service and the rollout continues. Channel 3 are currently using the same Interweave technology with the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System where it will no doubt prove to be just as game changing. #DigitalTransformation #AdultSocialCare

Continuing our theme of strategies to ease demand on the NHS, here's a contrarian viewpoint from the Personalised Care Institute. If the issue is too much demand, is the answer quantity (get more people through) or quality (get fewer people better)? As the name suggests, personalised care (combined with existing digital technologies) offers a powerful way to strategically address patients health and wellbeing in full. It's an issue of particular interest to Josh Hutchison and Joe Fraser. We'll be hearing more from them in our new series of articles, follow Channel 3 Consulting to be the first to hear about them. #DigitalTransformation #CauseForOptimism #PersonalisedCare
Our new report found that 45% of people feel they have received health advice that was unsuitable for their individual needs in the last two years – rising to 64% for those with multiple health conditions. 🧍 The consequences of receiving health advice and treatment that were not personalised include: 📉 A third reported worsening conditions, rising to 40% among those with long-term conditions. ❌One in four stopped following the advice or treatment early, increasing to one in three for those people with long-term conditions. 🏥Three in 10 people required an additional GP visit, and one in five (20%) required a visit to A&E. For people with long-term conditions, these numbers rise to 22% and four in 10 respectively. These findings highlight the urgent need to embed personalised care at scale within our health and care system. Two weeks ago at #NCASC24, we launched our 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 - a practical guide highlighting how digital innovation can address the challenges social care leaders face across the care pathway. The blueprint outlines real opportunities to improve outcomes for people and ensure financial sustainability, including: - Better, more independent outcomes for 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝘄𝗼 people - A typical range of £𝟴-𝟭𝟮𝗺 in savings on long-term care costs through delivering a digitally enabled model of care across a care service. - 𝗨𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟲𝟯% 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻 for social care practitioners through implementing AI-enabled assessment tools, giving them more time to spend with the people they support. Today, we’re sharing our blueprint with you. From better support for residents to better ways of working for staff, this blueprint demonstrates what’s possible with digital. If you’re exploring ways to transform social care in your area, we’d welcome the chance to share more. #DigitalInnovation #SocialCare #FutureOfCare #BlueprintForCare #CauseForOptimism

As the government announces its milestones to rebuilding the NHS, they have the right strategy. At the HFMA Annual Conference Matthew Jones hears #CauseForOptimism in spite of the undeniable challenges. As Lord Darzi’s report said, the NHS has turned around performance before and they’ll do it again. Every day at Channel 3 Consulting we see the transformational effect digital and data can have on the NHS. In improving outcomes, financial savings and increased productivity. Get in touch with Matt or any of the team to find out how to get the most from your digital and data, to help transform the NHS for the future. #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #NHS
At today's HFMA annual conference, Sarah Woolnough from The King's Fund reflected on the immense challenges facing health and care, describing it as a “burning platform.” Yet, for me her message of optimism stood out. Despite the current position Sarah sees reasons for hope, and at Channel 3 Consulting, we share that view. The Government’s three key shifts (analogue to digital, hospital to community, and sickness to prevention) is universally recognised as the right direction. The challenge of course lies in delivering them effectively. Analogue to Digital: Technology can transform care, but only if paired with the human support needed to maximise its potential. Infrastructure challenges must be tackled, which will require investment, and crucially, priorities must be pushed through to mainstream adoption at scale. Hospital to Community: Shifting care closer to home aligns with people’s preferences, but requires financial incentives to flow correctly. It’s about delivering better care, not quick savings. Sickness to Prevention: Prevention offers huge potential but remains underfunded and is the easiest thing to cut. Stable financial horizons and creative investment are critical to realising this shift. The message was clear: we need honest prioritisation and creative thinking to make these shifts a reality. This will be painful, but despite the constraints, Sarah reminded us that the system has driven change before, and can do it again. I certainly remain optimistic, and believe in the power of collaboration, innovation, and courage to overcome these challenges. What were your key takeaways from Sarah’s speech? Let’s keep the conversation going! #Channel3Consulting #HFMA2024
