Here at the Centre for Energy Ethics, we are always looking for ways in which we can improve and learn. With this in mind, we are thrilled to announce that we have added three new members to our Advisory Board, who will help us continue to develop as a world-class research centre 🌍 Samantha Lister is the Director of the Global Office at University of St Andrews, providing leadership to global activities which enhance student mobility and experience, academic reputation and research connectivity internationally. Vicky Ward is a Reader in Management in the Department of Management and Director of Impact and Innovation for the University of St Andrews Business School. Her area of research is ‘knowledge mobilisation’ – focusing on the role of academic and other forms of knowledge in policy and practice and how professionals create and share knowledge with one another. Amanda Skinner, having joined the University of St Andrews in 2023, brings over a decade of experience in higher education strategic communications, including partnership development, outreach, and engagement initiatives. We are excited to welcome all three to our team. With their expertise, we look forward to continuing to build upon the excellent work done by our team and board together. #EnergyEthics #NetZeroScotland #JustTransition #ClimateResearch Mette High Emilka Skrzypek Sean Field Cornelia Helmcke

With the upcoming Energy-in-Motion conference, Eco-Anxiety is at the forefront of our minds here at the CEE. Earlier in the semester, we held the Respond, Represent, Repair Workshop with CEE researcher Bridget Bradley and artists Jenny Pope and Liz Atkin. Eco-anxiety has become a common term used to describe emotional responses to the climate crisis, and yet doesn’t fully capture how people are experiencing different forms of ecological distress around the world. Artists have been using their work to respond, and attempt to represent eco-anxiety in creative ways, while working with natural and human-made substances to repurpose, and repair our material and emotional connections to our environments. How should Scotland respond to #COP29? Representatives of the University, including Mette High, director of the Centre for Energy Ethics, attended Scotland's Response to COP29, hosted by Scotland Beyond Net Zero (SBNZ), where we heard from academics from across Scotland’s university community who have been closely involved in this year’s biodiversity #COP16, and climate COP29. Awardees of the SBNZ seed fund shared details of their research with a focus on climate finance and nature, and energy and technology transfer. Panellists reflected on the conclusions of both COPs and the implications for Scotland, drawing out relations between biodiversity and climate discussions, and developing a call to action across our research, innovation, industry and policy communities. Scotland Beyond Net Zero is a coalition designed to catalyse research collaboration, empower our communities and inform the policymaking and action Scotland needs to reach its ambitious targets. Founded by the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, we now have members across Scotland's major research institutions and universities.

📢 Exciting news – my first article is finally out! 🥳 Read about battery gigafactories, post-oil futures, and industrial histories in Norway. I discuss: 📌 How the construction of a battery cell gigafactory is fuelling hopes for continued prosperity, employment, and stability in Norway (Europe's largest exporter of oil and gas). 📌 Why energy transitions and industrial developments are not just technological and economic shifts, but deeply moral questions about the futures want. 📌 How industrial histories serve as both inspiration and justification for reindustrialisation efforts. Check it out! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/duT68tUv NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences Centre for Energy Ethics Empowered Futures

It was so inspiring to attend presentations by our MSc Energy Policy and Finance students at University of St Andrews. They have worked hard this semester on course material that delved deep into the intricacies of energy markets and finance alongside issues of energy inequalities and climate responsibilities. It is a programme that captures the interdisciplinary ethos and impactful ambition of the Centre for Energy Ethics. And it's just so wonderful to see our students embrace the challenge and then overdeliver! Really well done! 🤩 #watchoutworld #energyethics #foreversaints Emilka Skrzypek Sean Field Morven Shearer Julie Ramsay Sarah Smith John Wells Moira Sharkey Alex Hayes https://lnkd.in/eDfYWwie
