Construction firm’s staff bring Christmas joy to families in need COLLEAGUES at a Northampton-based construction consultancy have spread festive cheer by building Christmas hampers and donating gifts to local families needing support. Bhangals Construction Consultants Ltd directors and staff wore Christmas jumpers to put together the 100 hampers at their Grange Park base. The parcels are full of both essential and luxury items including biscuits, tinned goods, pasta, rice, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, face wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, chocolates and children’s toys. It is the sixth consecutive year that Bhangals has put together the hampers, which cost a total of £2,000. The bumper bags were then handed over to innovative community support hub SCCYC Waterside Connect, which provides vital services to the local community and food and supplies to families living in poverty, and in crisis. ‘An exciting opportunity to bring together the incredible diversity of our hospitality, heritage, culture and attractions’: County’s tourism champion appoints new head THE CAMPAIGN to strengthen Northamptonshire’s visitor economy has taken a step forward with the appointment of the chair for the county’s Local Visitor Economy Partnership. Delapré Abbey’s chief executive Richard Clinton is to lead the partnership into the next phase of its formation – the submission of the LVEP application to national tourism body Visit England. This application is due to be submitted soon, with a decision expected early next year. If approved and Northamptonshire gains LVEP status, the county would receive national accreditation, a boost to the area’s tourism offer and unlock new opportunities. https://lnkd.in/egMDNiPQ #Heritage #VisitorEconomy #LVEP #BusinessTimes #Northamptonshire #Tourism

‘When universities thrive, so do their localities’: Economic Impact Report reveals University of Northampton’s £366m contribution to the county’s economy. MORE than 5,400 jobs in Northamptonshire, £366 million generated in the county’s economy in the latest financial year and a 300% return on investment… The results of new research have confirmed the University of Northampton as a key cog in the county’s economic wheel. To read the full UON Economic Impact report, click here. https://lnkd.in/e6MVM4Wk For every £1 spent running the university, the economy gains £4 back, according to the UON Economic Impact Report, which was released (Wednesday). And the university’s economic impact spreads further afield. It adds £456 million GVA and supports 6,390 jobs across the Oxford Cambridge Arc region and contributes a total £823 million GVA, supporting 10,610 jobs, across the UK as a whole. The report’s findings were presented by UON’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Anne-Marie Kilday to local politicians, businesspeople and public service representatives at a breakfast networking event. Universities are an indispensable part of their communities supporting thousands of jobs directly and indirectly, she told her audience. They are a powerful tool for social mobility and support the public and private sector through research. https://lnkd.in/ee6nAMQH #UniversityOfNorthampton #EconomicImpactReport #UoN #Education #NorthamptonshireBusiness #BusinessTimes

A pensions dilemma for investors and a challenge for the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Chartered wealth manager Charlie Lodge of OCM Wealth Management, takes an investment perspective on the Autumn Statement. IN PRESENTING her party’s first Budget in 14 years, the new Labour Chancellor was faced with a challenging task. Following her announcement of a “black hole” in the public finances, Rachel Reeves would need to strike a balance between the need to renew the Treasury’s coffers while also maintaining Labour’s manifesto promises. A tall order indeed. With the full details of the Budget now revealed, many have looked unfavourably on some of the Chancellor’s decisions, criticising it for a lack of growth-generating measures given the Chancellor’s rhetoric on the need to revive economic growth in the UK.
