Last week we had our much-anticipated Bristol One City Gathering themed around Collaboration and sponsored by Business in the Community and Enterprise Mobility. This event brought together over two hundred leaders from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors. We explored opportunities to deliver the One City Vision that by 2050, Bristol will be a fair, healthy and sustainable city, a city of hope and aspiration where everyone can share in its success. Our host Professor Palie Smart, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Civic Engagement, University of Bristol guided us through an exciting line up of expert speakers and community leaders. Councillor Tony Dyer, leader of Bristol City Council, gave an inspiring opening speech which touched on local and global challenges facing Bristol and emphasised the need for collaboration. We also heard perspectives of city leaders Carla Denyer MP, Kerry McCarthy MP, and David Tudgey on how we can deliver environmentally sustainable communities and achieve net zero through collaboration. Following this Peter Denton, CEO of Homes England, gave a keynote speech sharing insight on the power of collaboration and the opportunities partnership approaches present projects like Bristol Temple Quarter. The gathering learnt more from Jane Taylor, Ani Stafford-Townsend, Ed Plowden, Martin Fodor, Joe Hensey, Alex Ardalan-Raikes MBE DL (Hon LLD), Clare Moody, and Desmond Brown about the progress being made across the One City Goals and our ongoing workstreams. The audience was invited to join discussions, share their knowledge and talk to experts from the One City Thematic Boards. Using the #OneCityApproach, attendees had the opportunity to share offers and asks to mobilise resources across the city to help take the One City Plan forward. #BristolOneCity
