GP & Menopause Specialist | Founder of Newson Health Group | Best Selling Author | On a mission to improve the future health of all women
Our recent bone health survey - which we are currently writing up for an academic paper - revealed the startling truth that women’s bone health needs an urgent review. Most women who took our survey experienced a fragility fracture between the ages of 40 and 60, a time when many are perimenopausal or menopausal - when oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone that support bone health are declining. We already know that half of all women who have had one fragility fracture will go on to have a second fragility fracture within 2 years, and yet only 9% of women who participated in our survey, and had a fragility fracture were invited to a dedicated Fracture Liaison Service to discuss their on going bone health. Whilst we know that HRT, especially oestrogen, can play a significant role in improving bone density which then reduces the risk of fragility fractures, only 4% had a discussion with their healthcare professional about the potential benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) on bone health. Only 0.05% were prescribed HRT despite HRT being licensed as a treatment for osteoporosis. Shockingly, just under half of women who reported having a fragility fracture in our survey told us that their fracture had negatively impacted their quality of life. What Can You Do? If you’ve had a fracture, ask your doctor about bone health strategies, including HRT. Share this post to raise awareness. Let’s break the silence around bone health and empower women to improve their quality of life and bone health!

World Mental Health Day: https://lnkd.in/eWgbG9R3 Today, on World Mental Health Day, it's essential to reflect on how trust affects our mental health. Completley coincidentally yesterday we released "The Business of Brain Health and Wealth" our 12th episode from our Brainy Podcast series https://lnkd.in/es32bgck . We explored what happens in the brain when trust is lacking. When we don't feel trusted—or struggle to trust others, very simplistically the amygdala, a part of the brain's fear center, takes over, shutting down the prefrontal cortex, which limits our ability to think clearly and make decisions. This response puts us into survival mode, reducing our capacity for enjoying our relationships, talking, problem-solving, shacking negativity off and causing us to feel overwhelmed. Taking care of our mental health means understanding these brain patterns and learning how to overcome them. Here are a few key strategies for improving your mental wellbeing that we use with our clients: - Address Imposter Syndrome: Challenge self-doubt with affirmations and remind yourself of your achievements. - Break Default Patterns: The brain defaults to familiar habits to save energy. Recognize these patterns and create new habits that support growth. - Practice Emotional Regulation: Manage stress with mindfulness, deep breathing, or journaling. - Dial Up Joy: Laughter, joy, and nurturing relationships are essential for brain health. Find moments of joy daily - walking, dancing, singing, laughter and strengthening your connections with others. Your mental health matters, and small, intentional practices can have a big impact. Listen to Brainy Podcast episode 12 for more insights on how trust and mindset affect your brain, and learn strategies to build resilience, joy, and well-being https://lnkd.in/er44DiqM f you're curious to learn and understand more about how you can work with your brain and not against it, then lets have a chat about how our evidence based leadership masterclass, talks and neuro coaching focusing on the Neuroscience of Mental Wellbeing can support you to make every day a good day. #WorldMentalHealthDay #BrainyPodcast #MentalHealth #Mindset #Trust #Wellbeing #ImposterSyndrome #Joy
