  • Landmarks feel a bit like the proverbial London buses for us this year. Today it's our Norwich scheme's turn to celebrate, after it surpassed both one million e-scooter journeys and five million kilometres over the weekend. It's the second double million milestone for us this year, after our BCP scheme reached two million overall journeys and seven million kilometres back in June. Run in partnership with National Grid and Norfolk County Council, Norwich offers riders the choice of bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters and has prevented more than 225 tonnes of harmful carbon emissions according to industry calculations. The e-scooter milestone is also a timely feather in the cap for the government trials, after the recent positive indications around the introduction of new legislation. Introducing the correct legislation will make e-scooters more accessible, which would have a chain effect boosting their popularity, getting more people out of their cars and amplifying calls for better infrastructure. As one of our longest-running schemes, we're delighted that our shared bikes and e-bikes in Hereford have clocked up half a million sustainable journeys. Earlier this year, the scheme also reached one million kilometres ridden and celebrating milestones such as these allow us to reflect on the impact that shared transport can have on an area. We know, from talking to our riders in Hereford, that 68% of those asked have used a Beryl vehicle to replace a car, van, motorcycle or taxi journey (either as a driver or a passenger). This is 14% more than the average across all our other schemes and a significant impact on traffic congestion levels. More than 147,000 hours of physical activity have gone into making the journeys, so we also know that we are getting people active. In fact, 60% of those asked in Hereford said they now cycle more often or much more often since joining Beryl - a very positive statistic. Encouraging this behaviour shift and getting people to swap four wheels for two is also helping to clean up the region's air, with the scheme preventing nearly 46 tonnes of harmful Carbon Dioxide emissions since it launched in 2019. Our brand new e-bike share scheme, run in partnership with Stevenage Borough Council, is already having a positive impact across the borough. Launched on 1 October, the scheme has already generated over 8,000 sustainable journeys in its first month, with direct feedback from riders showing that around a quarter of those have directly replaced private car trips. This modal shift has already helped to save almost a tonne of harmful carbon emissions according to industry calculations - a big boost for public health and the region's air quality. Around 2,000 hours of physical activity has already gone into generating those journeys - another major benefit given that exercise is scientifically proven to aid both physical and mental health. Our bays at Stevenage Railway Station are proving to be the most popular with riders initially, which suggests that the scheme is already integrating well with the town’s existing transport infrastructure. Stevenage is one of the first schemes to benefit from our brand new BBE2 model, designed to be as safe, comfortable, accessible and technically advanced as possible so it feels more like an e-bike you would privately own. Happy birthday to our Borehamwood bike and e-bike share scheme 🥂 Since we launched it two years ago, in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council, the scheme has given thousands of people greater access to active travel. The bikes have generated more than 25,000 sustainable journeys across nearly 50,000km - more than the distance around the Earth. We know, from direct rider feedback, that our Hertsmere service is often used for commuting and part-commuting, connecting with other modes of transport. This is a real positive for us, as our schemes are designed to form part of local integrated transport networks. For more info, click here: https://bit.ly/4dSUjwE

Question - Which distance is greater, from the Earth to the Moon or ten times around the Earth? 🌍 🌕 It's ten times around the Earth which, at 400,750 kilometres, is the greater distance by 16,350. In its first eighteen months, our Plymouth e-bike share scheme has surpassed both of these milestones, clocking up more than 429,000 kilometres from over 175,000 sustainable journeys. According to industry calculations, it has also saved more than 12 tonnes of carbon emissions , which is a positive impact on regional air quality. These milestones are a bit of fun, but they're also a good way to showcase the demand for shared sustainable transport. We'll continue to work alongside our scheme partners Plymouth City Council to encourage even more people to swap four wheels for two across the city. Our brand new bays are now ready to use at the University of Worcester. The eight bays will allow staff and students to access the bikes from City Campus, Severn Campus, and at several locations on St John’s Campus. We know, from working with other universities across the UK, just how well the advantages of bikeshare can dovetail with the typical student lifestyle. Shared transport is much cheaper than private car ownership, removing expenses such as fuel, insurance, maintenance and MOT. Similarly, the flexibility of the bikes, especially in comparison to the set times and routes of public transport, can easily fit in around almost any student or staff timetable of classes and lectures. It's another feather in the cap of our Worcester bike and e-bike share scheme, run in partnership with Worcester City Council, which has been a big success since launching this summer. Our Watford scheme has expanded to Croxley Green, making bike share services even more accessible to thousands more people. Run in partnership with Watford Borough Council, the scheme has extended its boundary to the west and added 15 e-bikes and five new bays for riders to use. The expansion is part of a two year e-bike pilot funded by Three Rivers District Council via their capital budget. It follows the expansion to Bushey earlier this year and will enable riders to enjoy greater flexibility and make hassle-free rides between Croxley, Bushey, and Watford. By making the service even more accessible to more people, we can hopefully contribute even more towards reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and getting people active. There hasn’t been a new e-bike for docked or hybrid systems launched in a long time. We’ve been operating and making bikes for years and this bike takes all the best features and technologies that the dockless boom has given the industry and applies it to make the best E-bike to ride and operate in sharing systems all over the world. I’m not prone to hyperbole but I really think this is the greatest shared e-bike ever. Congrats to all in involved - there are lots of you.
