For the unimaginable bravery and courage. For being a truth teller for all victims sexual assault. For standing strong as a survivor. For controlling your narrative. For giving us your name. We stand with you Gisele. It’s only right that we share your words in their entirety. “This trial was a very difficult ordeal. I think first of all of my three children, David, Caroline and Florian. I also think of my grandchildren because they are the future and it is also for them that I have led this fight, as well as my daughters-in-law Aurore and Céline. I also think of all the other families affected by this tragedy. "Finally, I think of the unrecognized victims whose stories often remain in the shadows. I want you to know that we share the same fight. "I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the people who supported me throughout this ordeal. Your testimonies have upset me and I have drawn from them the strength to come back every day. Long days of hearings. "I also thank the victims' aid association for our unwavering support. It has been invaluable to me. To all the journalists who have followed me and followed this case since its inception. I wish to express my gratitude for the faithful, respectful and dignified treatment in which they reported daily on these hearings. "To my lawyers, finally, all the gratitude and esteem that I have for them for having accompanied me at each stage of this painful journey. "I wanted, by opening the doors of this trial on September 2, that society could take hold of the debates that took place there. "I have never regretted this decision. I now have confidence in our ability to collectively seize a future in which each woman and man can live in harmony with respect and mutual understanding. I thank you." Was justice served? I think we all have very strong opinions on this historical case. I want to reserve that for another day and focus on the imense power of Gisele Pelicot who refused to stay silent and allow these criminals an easy way out of their heinous abuse and crimes. 💜🧡 #WeStandWithGisele #SurviversOfSexualAssault #Justice #Humanity Photo Credit - British Vogue Photo Credit - Sky News

Thank you Rizwan Ahmed for sharing this post as we come to the end of #IslamaphobiaAwarenessMonth. This account of an open and honest, difficult conversation which yielded postive results is exactly more of what we should promote as a society. Let’s never forget to celebrate wins (no matter how minor they may seem) when we make connections and breakthrough hate 🙏🏽💜🧡 We love to see it
With Islamophobia Awareness month drawing to an end and all the worry and concern it can bring – and rightly as it is a growing issue, I wanted to share some positivity as well by sharing some case studies over the next frew days of my previous work where positive interaction has resulted in challenging Islamophobia. As things seem a bit doom and gloomy at the moment. In my previous job as Cultural Awareness Officer at Bristol Muslim Cultural Society I engaged with around over 33,000 people over the last 13 years or so through Demystifying Islam and Islamophobia awareness sessions. It largely my reputation for the work for explaining the subject matter in a down to earth and jargon free manner that lead to this many being engaged with. I didn't really have to reach out to anyone as other organisations reached out to me. Many schools would seek out a session and I still get teachers and lecturers from universities regularly contacting me privately to help them because of the impact my work had on turning around Islamophobic views. I’ve always believed education and dialogue done in the right was is critical in addressing Islamophobia. As Ibn Rushd an Islamic philosopher from the past said: “Ignorance leads to fear, fear leads to hatred, and hatred leads to violence. This is the equation.” Part of the success of the work I believe was my ability to connect with the audience and explain things in a way that the audience could relate to. It’s not about just explaining Islam as some believe. But anyway, here is the first case study I thought would be good to share. I apologise to those who have heard this before. After the Brussels Terrorist attack in 2016 Bristol Muslim Cultural Society received a very angry email from a male Belgian national living in Bristol. (The email was so angry he wrote the whole thing in the subject header! We had to scroll through to read the whole thing!) He expressed some very negative views about Islam and Muslims and wanted / demanded to speak to someone about the attack. Foolishly I met him by myself Ahmed at BMCS. To connect with him as a human I remember using some humour and this calmed his anger. Then using some common sense answered his questions and misconceptions in language he could relate to. After a relatively short social interaction / conversation for about 30 to 40 minutes his attitude had also been transformed and his views transformed as well into more positive views about Islam and Muslims. I also gave him the chance to vent and ask any questions he had. At the end of the meeting he gave me a firm handshake of gratitude and said some words that stick with me to this day. He commented that he wished there were Muslims like Rizwan that people like him could meet and the world would be a better place. #islamophobia #islam #islamophobiaawareness

Final Day with Cohort 1 after a 6 month course on Black Sexual Health Matters for #BlackMaternityMatters with Unity Sexual Health Clinic. BCohCo’s Katie Donovan-Adekanmbi found this to be an illuminating journey which really highlights the medical and scientific racism to sexual health care for the black community which permeates the health care system. Good work. Hard Work. A lot to do! Thank you @Emma Painter for leading on this🙏🏽💜🧡 #BlackMaternityMatters #AntiRacism

Why do we need Anti Islamophobia Month? 💜🧡 BCohCo wouid like to share a few reasons: (source- anti- islamophobia.org) Home Office data ending March 2024 shows that 38% of religious hate crimes recorded by the police were against Muslims.1 Over 70% of young Muslims in the UK who say they experience mental health struggles, also say they have been victims of Islamophobia.2 42% of Mosques experienced a religiously motivated attack in the last 3 years and of those, 83% have been attacked at least once a year.3 59% of all articles associate Muslims with negative behaviour.4 Right-leaning tabloids and religious publications have the greatest number of ‘Irrelevant’ and ‘Misleading’ headlines about Muslims, with the highest proportion of ‘Antagonistic’ articles being from The Spectator (37.3%).5 Were you aware? please visit https://lnkd.in/dyer9ARi #AIM #SeedsOfChange #Inclusion #AntiHate #Awareness #Diversity
