At B&Q, we’re wanting to make more sustainable choices when it comes to what purchases our customers make. We want to continue to put innovation at the forefront of our approach to helping our customers make more sustainable choices which is why we recently launched our plant pot recycling stations. They allow people to drop off unwanted plastic plant pots which will then be recycled and turned into new pots which are available to buy at B&Q – ensuring plastic materials are continually recycled and reused, reducing waste and environmental impact. Involved in this sustainability initiative were Samantha Dyer and Sanita Garley, and we caught up with them to get some insight into the project and find out their proudest moment when working on it. Today we’ve opened our brand-new B&Q store in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. To celebrate the opening, store manager Nicola Pickering and her team were joined by Rotherham's Mayor Councillor Sheila Cowen and players from Rotherham United Women Football Club who opened the store. Customers were welcomed into the store by the local brass band Dinnington Colliery Band, who kicked off the celebrations with a lively and festive performance. As well as access to over 11,000 products, the new 22,000 sq.ft store includes services such as kitchen, bathroom and bedroom planning and installation; tool hire; timber cutting; paint mixing, Click & Collect. The store also has a garden centre and dedicated TradePoint counter. Nicola and the team look forward to welcoming customers to the store and supporting them with all their DIY projects.

An exciting launch today as we open the doors to our brand-new B&Q store in Rotherham.    Our growth needs stores at its heart, and the opening of the new Rotherham store is an important step in ensuring we make home improvement easier for customers in this area. We are focused on giving customers a retail experience that’s easy and convenient at B&Q. Rotherham has been designed with our retail park format; A 22,000 square foot store housing over 11,000 products as well as a kitchen and bathroom showroom showing off our latest ranges. We also have a dedicated TradePoint counter along with specific van parking to make it easier for the trade to access the products they need. A hugely exciting addition to our portfolio - congratulations to Nicola and her team in launching the new store and all the teams that made the opening a success!

This weekend, colleagues across all of our stores are fundraising for Shelter and its partner charities. B&Q will be match-funding customer donations as well as donating £1 for every Christmas tree sold this year. We're also selling these fantastic Christmas jumpers with all proceeds going to Shelter to continue our commitment of support.  Good luck to everyone for a bumper fundraising weekend from Thierry Garnier and Graham Bell

At B&Q, we believe everybody should have a safe and settled home - especially at Christmas.   Sadly, this is not the case for more than 159,000 children whose families will spend this festive period living in temporary accommodation - the highest number on record.   To highlight the bleak and often inadequate conditions that many families are experiencing this Christmas, we’ve worked with our long-term partners Shelter to create alternative snow globe scenes that shatter the illusion of festive perfection. These snow globe baubles are based on true accounts from families living in temporary accommodation.   The alternative snow globe scenes will be hung on trees at our stores nationwide from this week. Across the festive season, we will be donating £1 from every real Christmas tree we sell to Shelter, and are hosting a fundraising weekend at our 311 stores across the UK and Ireland from 6th - 8th December where customers’ donations at checkout will be matched by B&Q.   Please come down to your local B&Q and support this important cause.

We recently opened our first B&Q Local store outside of London in Brighton, making this the 11th B&Q Local store in our portfolio. B&Q Local Brighton is a new smaller high street format providing customers with speed, convenience, and access to B&Q’s wider offer of products and services but closer to home. Three months on, we’ve spoken with Connor (Store Manager) and Beth (Shift Leader) about how well the new store has embedded into local community and the best thing about the store opening. With the new local store, we’re able to offer our customers quality products on their doorstep. Supporting communities affected by Storm Bert Storm Bert brought torrential rain, snow and strong winds, resulting in widespread flooding with hundreds of homes affected. British Red Cross teams have been deployed nationwide to support affected communities with emotional and practical assistance and our colleagues at B&Q stores have been working with them to provide essential products to help with the clean-up. Henry Barnes commented: “Thanks to our emergency protocol with B&Q and Kingfisher, we could utilise 491 essential clean-up items to support the residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf with recovery. Thank you to everyone at B&Q, Kingfisher and the kindness of your staff at the Swansea and Pontypridd stores who provided these valuable donations. Your support has made a real difference to families impacted by the storm”. #BandQ #StormBert #BritishRedCross Image: © British Red Cross

To celebrate the upcoming opening of our brand-new store in Rotherham on 13 December, this week colleagues from the new store hosted a special community day at local charity, the Rotherham Hospice, to help set up its new charity shop ahead of the Christmas period.   The day was part of B&Q’s wider Community Days programme, where volunteers from local B&Q stores support the community by improving a local charity space, making a positive difference across the communities B&Q serves.   We look forward to welcoming the Rotherham community to our new B&Q store at Great Eastern Retail Park, Beale Way on 13 December and helping them with all their DIY projects

💙 Proud to share this inspiring story of community impact… As part of B&Q's Community Days annual volunteering programme, colleagues from B&Q Newhaven were joined by other stores from across the region to roll up their sleeves at Kempton House Day Centre. What makes this so special? Kempton House is a vital community hub offering services from meals and companionship to mental health support and rehabilitation. B&Q's support helps to ensure they can continue providing this crucial work in a comfortable, welcoming environment, with the team adding plants to the garden, painting communal spaces, laying new flooring and more. B&Q’s Community Days 2024 programme has supported over 300 volunteering events and involved over 1,400 B&Q colleagues giving over 10,000 hours. Appreciation goes out to the B&Q team for their time, DIY skills and donation of products; and to Kempton House for the incredible work they do in their community every day! 👏 Through the Community Days campaign, Neighbourly connected B&Q’s 300+ stores with volunteer projects. Want to know how your business can connect with the communities you operate in?
