AWTG and the Borderlands 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) team have successfully implemented a 5G O-RAN pop-up site at the renowned Kielder Observatory and demonstrated innovations and use cases that will be deployed to the region. AWTG team showcased the capabilities and stability of our 5G O-RAN solution using Low Earth Orbit satellite network for backhaul, and providing a stable service swiftly upon arriving at one of the UK’s outstanding astronomical sites. Excited to share that AWTG is playing a pivotal role in enhancing broadband connectivity on the Bicester Village to Bletchley railway line. AWTG will be deploying 5G infrastructure as part of England's Connected Heartland initiative. This Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)-funded project will boost connectivity for rail passengers and extend broadband services to rural communities and businesses, fostering innovation and growth. AWTG is thrilled to share our time at the Glebe Park Christmas Market, where alongside the Borderlands 5G Innovation Region team, we showcased advanced wireless technologies. These included complimentary Wi-Fi for point-of-sale systems and a CCTV-based application for counting people. The project, backed by a £36 million Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) grant, aspires to improve wireless connectivity throughout the UK. We are delighted that through events like these, we were able to highlight the transformative impact of 5G on the tourism sector in the Borderlands, offering instant connectivity and innovative solutions. AWTG is thrilled to be part of the Borderlands 5G Innovation Region team showcasing how advanced wireless technologies and 5G can boost the tourism economy at the Glebe Park Christmas Market on Sunday, 1st December 2024. The initiative is part of the UK wide programme with £36 million fund from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and aims to help communities across the UK make the most of advanced wireless connectivity. AWTG is the main technical partner of the Borderlands 5G Innovation Region to deliver the network, services, innovations and use cases.
