Last night we gathered to wish good luck to Mervyn Skeet, our Director of General Insurance Policy, who will be taking up the role of CEO of the Bermuda Corporate Income Tax Agency in the New Year. Mervyn joined the ABI in 2017 as Head of Taxation where he led the development and promotion of our tax policy in the UK and internationally. He was the first to see the significance of the future implementation of the OECD Pillar Two regulations, bringing it to the attention of members at a senior level and urging them to plan ahead for it. He marshalled international support to secure amendments to the draft regulations at OECD level to protect the industry from the worst impacts through his position as Chair of the Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) Tax Working Group. As Director of General Insurance Policy, Mervyn has been instrumental in the progress made on our priorities including the affordability of motor insurance, the development of the Fire Safety Reinsurance Facility and cross-sector work on how to approach major cyber events. He led on the creation of our Commercial Committee and enhanced policy work to support market developments, particularly on cyber and SMEs. Thank you so much for all your work for both us and as a great champion for the industry.
