The fight for human rights never sleeps.
About us
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We are funded by members and people like you. We are independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religion. No government is beyond scrutiny. No situation is beyond hope. WHAT DOES AMNESTY DO? We investigate and expose the facts, whenever and wherever abuses happen. We lobby governments, and other powerful groups such as companies. Making sure they keep their promises and respect international law. By telling the powerful stories of the people we work with, we mobilize millions of supporters around the world to campaign for change and to stand in defence of activists on the frontline. We support people to claim their rights through education and training.

How do you say genocide in the EU's 24 languages? As EU leaders meet in Brussels to discuss Israel's actions in #Gaza, we sent them a message they can't ignore #EndGazaGenocide

Amnesty International reposted this
#Language has always pulsed at the heart ❤ of Amnesty’s mission, serving as a bridge to connect, mobilize, and amplify its global call for #humanrights. Yet, the evolving global context – marked by rapid technological developments, shifting geopolitical dynamics, the rise of polycrises, and an intensified focus on anti-racist and decolonizing efforts – calls for innovative approaches to advancing human rights. In response, Amnesty International is proud to launch its Movement-wide 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰-𝟯𝟬) today. Aligned with Amnesty’s 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, this comprehensive Strategy recalibrates the role of language within Amnesty’s work, recognizing it as more than a tool for 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹-𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Instead, language serves as a 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 for inclusivity, empowerment, and global solidarity in the defence of human rights. The Strategy integrates language considerations into every level of Amnesty’s external-facing initiatives – from higher strategic aspects down to more operational elements. By creating accessible, inclusive, and culturally relevant content and events, it aims to expand Amnesty’s global outreach, elevate voices often sidelined in international discourse, and foster a broader and more diverse network of members and supporters. Through this strategic lens, Amnesty International commits to a future where 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴, 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥, 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 #𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 #𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗹. 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. 🤝 #Diversity #Inclusion #Empowerment #Impact #Accessibility

The Taliban have banned women in Afghanistan from attending medical and semi-professional education, including nursing and midwifery. This will not only shut the door to the last remaining avenue for education in Afghanistan but will also have devastating consequences for the health of women in the country that has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. The Taliban must immediately end the system of gender persecution and fulfil Afghanistan's obligations under international human rights law.
