Nature Recovery In Action ☘️ 🌿 We’re proud to be working with the Wendling Beck Environment Project – a ground-breaking, 2,000-acre nature recovery project in the heart of #Norfolk. It has been great helping Glenn Anderson and his team on this pioneering #habitat creation project. The project aims to create a diverse range of #grassland, #woodland and #wetland habitats, restore river quality and adopt regenerative #farming practices. It will bring about wider social and environmental benefits: provide access to the public at large to a unique landscape, enable education and learning opportunities; deliver improvements in biodiversity, water, soil, and air. It also paves the way to meet Biodiversity Net Gain (#BNG) requirements through the purchase of environmental credits. Here’s a sneak peek of the Albanwise Environment self-loading forage wagon in action, as captured by our team. Massive thank you to North Norfolk Coastal Group, WWF and Norfolk Rivers Trust for funding the wagon. It is partnerships such as these that can drive meaningful progress towards restoring our natural landscapes. Some fantastic snaps taken on our day out with Mills & Reeve and NatureMetrics! 📸 Check out the video to see how we're working together towards nature recovery https://lnkd.in/eEqs_DQG
Some of our favourite photos from our day out at Stoke Ferry with Albanwise Environment and NatureMetrics 📸 The Achieving more for nature's recovery initiative aims to restore the peat soils in the floodplain of the River Wissey. By using environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, the project identifies existing species and examines where the land needs to improve. Our ultimate goal is to create a thriving wetland ecosystem that supports diverse wildlife and contributes to climate resilience. 🦉 🌱 If you haven't already, check out our video to learn more: https://bit.ly/4fL4MvS #NatureRecovery #Sustainability #Conservation

We bought a SSSI canal! Here’s why we are cutting the aquatic vegetation on this floristically important waterway 🌱 The Leven Canal stretches just over 5km, connecting the River Hull to the village of Leven in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Originally built in 1801 to enhance trade routes between Leven and Hull, the canal thrived as a commercial waterway. However, by 1935, the rise of the railways had diminished its use for trade. In 1962, it gained recognition for its ecological significance when it was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rare floristic biodiversity.🌸Today, the canal is home to several important aquatic plants, such as the nationally protected Greater Water Parsnip, along with locally scarce species like Flowering Rush and Water Violet 🌾. In 2023, Albanwise Environment acquired the Leven Canal to become a part of our larger Leven Carrs Landscape Recovery Project, a 644-hectare initiative aimed at restoring the wetland habitats that once thrived on this floodplain. The canal bisects the land central to the project, making its management critical to the success of our broader environmental goals 🌍. The Leven Canal SSSI is a rich ecosystem that supports a diverse range of wildlife 🦋. However, it requires regular management as overgrown vegetation can negatively impact the biodiversity. To address this, we have been working with Aquatic Solutions UK to remove vegetation and improve the overall health of the canal. The amphibious machines seen in the video are a great solution for cutting vegetation, as these machines can cut 3-4 meters at a time 🚜. Once cut, the vegetation is placed onto the bank side to allow aquatic life to return to the water. Even though this work can look extreme, it is carried out by experienced professionals who recognise and avoid important and rare plant species, we also only ever cut a proportion of the canal each year to ensure a balanced approach to its conservation. Here’s why regular vegetation cutting is so important: ☀️ Allows in Light: Managed cutting allows light to penetrate the water, encouraging the growth of aquatic plants. 🪴 Prevents Overgrowth: Excess vegetation can choke the water flow, leading to stagnant areas that are less hospitable to aquatic life. Regular trimming maintains water quality and ensures a healthier environment for species that depend on clear, flowing water. 🐞 Improves Biodiversity: By removing dominant aquatic plants and algae, this encourages a balance of vegetation to flourish. By managing the vegetation, we provide varied habitats that support a wider range of wildlife. 💧 Enhances Water Quality: Keeping vegetation in check helps to prevent blockages and improve oxygen levels in the water. 🌱Our Vision for Leven Carrs Nature Reserve🌱 In June, Sarah Aitken shared our ambitious plans for the Leven Carrs Nature Reserve, an initiative that aims to transform 644 hectares of land into a thriving habitat for wildlife and the local community. On a warm spring morning, you might hear the distinctive call of lapwing or spot water voles scurrying across the watercourses. With a diverse range of habitats, including reedbeds, open water, and grassland, we aim to support scheduled species such as bittern and barn owl whilst fostering a space for the community to connect with nature. 👉 Read the full article to learn more about our vision for Leven Carrs 🚨 Stay tuned for updates on the project's progress and ongoing management, including developments related to the Leven Canal! 👇 Check out the website link in the comments to learn more about us and our ongoing projects #CreatingInspiringLandscapes #LandscapeRecovery #LevenCarrs #LevenCanal #NatureRecovery #HabitatRestoration #AlbanwiseEnvironment #AEL https://lnkd.in/ebR2569T

🌿 How Wetland and Peatland Restoration is Building Climate Resilience 🌍 Wetlands are some of the most critical ecosystems on the planet, providing numerous environmental benefits such as water filtration, flood regulation, and carbon storage. At Albanwise Environment, we recognise the vital role these habitats play, not only for biodiversity but also in mitigating the impacts of climate change. 🌱 But wetlands aren’t just about water regulation—they are also powerful tools for carbon sequestration. Wetlands, and particularly peatlands, hold immense amounts of carbon, acting as one of nature’s most effective carbon sinks. In fact, peatlands store more carbon than all the world's forests combined. 🌳 However, when these ecosystems are degraded, they become net emitters of CO2, contributing to global warming. In the UK, many peatlands have been drained for agriculture or development, leading to a loss of their carbon-sequestering abilities. Wetland and peatland restoration also offer significant social and economic benefits. Economically, restored wetlands can support sustainable agriculture, such as marsh-fed grazing, and offer new revenue streams through carbon offsetting and biodiversity units. 🌾 Socially, they provide enhanced recreational opportunities, improve flood management, and increase local biodiversity, creating healthier ecosystems that benefit communities and attract tourism. 🏞️ Together, these benefits contribute to resilient landscapes and stronger rural economies. At Albanwise Environment, we are committed to expanding our wetland and peatland restoration projects, creating a future where nature and climate solutions go hand in hand. 🌿 By prioritising these ecosystems, we are not only uplifting local biodiversity but also helping to mitigate the global impacts of climate change. 🌎 Explore how our wetland and peatland projects are making a difference and how you can get involved.💡 Click the link to our website in the comments section or send us a DM to find out more.⬇ #CreatingInspiringLandscapes #AEL #NatureRecovery #WetlandRestoration #PeatlandRecovery #ClimateResilience #NatureBasedSolutions #NatureRestoration #AlbanwiseEnvironment
